Jason has been on TOBI from Sept. through May, on 28 and off 28 for the past five years. I don't believe he has cultured pseud. or any of the related bugs for at least three years - only staph. I am just wondering how others that prev. were colonize with pseudo are treated? I am wondering if he isn't culturing it because of the TOBI or if he shouldn't be on the TOBI any more - I have a call in to the dr's with the same question. Just wondering what other's have experienced. Thanks.

My daughter might not be the best one to use as a classic example but I'll let you know what happened with her just for the sake of sharing:

My daughter was diagnosed at age 14. At age 15 she cultured PA. She went on cipro and Tobi for one month only. She has never cultured it again and never treated for it again either. She is now 19 years old.

My son with CF has been on and off Tobi at various times and also done rounds of IVs during that period. He has cultured "scant" amounts of non-mucoid PA at random scattered times and the Dr. feels that the negative cultures are not really much use since there are so many places a tiny bit of PA could hide...The Dr. does not have a hard/fast rule about when to use or stop Tobi - she's weighing a bunch of factors about his health other than just whether he's had a positive PA culture or not...though in general her tendency is to not use Tobi or other antibiotics unless there is something going on (such as a cough or persistent lung noise when she listens to him).
