When to go to the hospital

My fiance has been sick for 3 days now. We called the oncall doctor yesterday and did not an actually answer until today. They essentially asked if he felt that he needed to be hospitalized. He would never admitted that he needed to, and hasn't been often...
He's had a fever of 100-101.8 for 3 days, tired, loss of appetite, and coughing more (productive cough at least). He says his breathing is any different than a normal cold.
I am just looking for any advice, our clinic is 2 hrs away.

Thank you!
Please go in. I know it sucks, been there, done that. When you're running a fever that high, that length of time it is time to go. He most assuredly has an infection & he neds IV therapy at a minimum. All our best to you both & thank you for standing with your man. I know how it is; my wife has been with me from the good times with no problems, to the decline in health. She was with me throug all the hospitalizations abd finally through transplant. A man is NOTHING without a good woman, it sounds like your man has gotten very lucky when he found YOU!
May God be with you both. The journey that is CF can't be done alone. Thank you for staying with him!

Thank you both for the advice. He was given some antibiotics over the phone and we are going to wait it out about a day. The doctors say they aren't concerned about the fever as long as he's breathing ok. He coughed up a VERY large chunk of mucus before I left for work tonight, and he said that made him feel a little better.
I feel so bad leaving him to go to work when he's this sick.
Have you ever been told not to take anything to bring down a fever? The doc yesterday said as long as the fever doesn't bother him that he doesn't have to take anything to bring it down.
Thank you again, I'm hoping for a slightly healthier guy when I get home at 7am.

Hi, Sometimes if you catch it in the beginning you can get away with oral antibiotics .. They seem to work less as time goes by. If he doesnt improve or his symptoms worsen I would pack a bag & make the 2 hr trip.. About the fever, I dont know why the dr would say not to take anything to bring it down, but I would take something. Why not feel better than you do w/ a fever?? take care. Hope he feels better soon .. joni
