I was just perscribed hyper tonic saline, but no one told me where in my order of inhaled therapies I should place it. I do Albuteral, pulmozyme, cayston & symbacort. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.<img title="Smile" src="include/wysiwyg/tinymce/jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/img/smiley-smile.gif" alt="Smile" border="0" />

This brings up a good question we've been debating over. Our doctor said to do albuterol, saline, pulmozyme, airway clearance, then inhaled antibiotics in that order but we've heard online that saline and pulmozyme should be done at least a half hour apart because the pulmozyme supposedly counters what the saline is supposed to do. Anybody else hear that about the pulmozyme and the saline?

Hi there,

I believe the order should be albuterol, HTS, Pulmozyme, antibiotic, then Symbicort - that's the order I was told at clinic.

Ditto rubyroselee
Albuterol and hypertonic while vesting. (thats the cleanout part)
Then pulmozyme, then antibiotics if any, then steroids (pulmicort, etc)

The above ladies are correct. Just to help explain the basics of the order/drugs if you are not aware:

Albuterol--take it first as it opens up the passageways short-term making it easier to get everything else in
HTS--moistens & lubricates everything and helps moving gunk around
Pulmozyme--works to break up mucus so it can be expelled. Works best if you can get it deep (thus after HTS)
Antibiotics--kill the gunk, works best where it reaches so do once the lungs are moving air
Steroids--help keep lungs open long-term and improve airflow until next treatment

As you can see if you swap the order around you reduce the function of one or more of them.
