Ok my husband has CF and since I am African American we do not deal with these types of issues. So I have been going online and trying to reserch what I can to know what he is dealing with. He just found out he has CF as of last March(age 24) so there are some things he still does not know to much about. For one we want to have children. I already have two from my previous relationship and he has none. My biological clok is ticking so loudly that every where I turn I see pregnant women or a commerical about pregnancy test or ovulation. I have gone to my doctor to make sure that everything is in line for me to try to conceive since my youngest will be 7 years old in November.

I guess my questions are besides the semen analysis test what other test do we need performed. He goes to a CF clinic in our state but I don't think he knows which mutations he has or any of that stuff. I do know that his drs report that his numbers increase at each visit but with this job he has, he's been having to cancel apts because he is always on the road.

I just want to know for myself so that way when we do go to his next apt I can ask questions and make sure that they are giving him the best care and treatment.

Any information that I can get would be most appreciated.

The likelihood of you two being able to get pregnant without assistance is pretty small, probably around 2%. The first step would be for him to have the semen analysis done, that will let you know if he has a blockage of the vas deferens.

Then I personally recommend that you get tested to see if you are a carrier. There ARE African Americans who are carriers. That way you know if you have a chance of bringing a child with CF into the world.

Depending on the results of his semen analysis, you might want to check out my website on IVF and CF, www.cysticfibrosismaleinfertility.com
