Which bugs "smell"?

The last few days I have had increased sinus pain, pressure and drainage. I have also been coughing a bit more, but I think that may be the AZLI, which I started a week ago.

Anyway...I also have this increased scent in my nose. It kinda smells like a mixture of trash and dirty feet. I don't really know how to describe it...but its not fun.

What bugs may be causing this? I know some of you have complained about this sensation and that you know it is a certain bug. Please let me know, because I will be calling my doctor on Monday about some other things.

I'm not sure which bug it is, but I know exactly what you mean. I get sinus infections often and that's one of the first signs. It is a nasty smell/taste. When my kids were younger I could smell it on their breath when they were getting a sinus infection. Yuck
Sinus rinses will help.

Ok well at least I'm not crazy...lol. I was going to mention it to the ENT yesterday, but I don't think he knows that much about CF bugs...so I will mention it to my CF doctor and hopefully he can help me figure it out.

I believe the aspergillus also smells, I feel like I heard that somewhere recently (not sure tho).

Does anyone think it could be the abx? Since I just started AZLI, maybe that has something to do with it? (because I don't think that I am necessarily sick right now)

Pseudomonas and Yeast have that sweet sometimes almost nauseating smell. You could have the yeast (YES, in the nose!!!) from the ABX

I find that the garbagey smell is usually the Achromobacter in me...it really does smell and taste like trash and has a pretty pungent stink to it. Pretty gross. PA, yes, has a sweet, rotten grape smell to it, the taste is tough to describe though....gross as well. Staph, has a smell but not as strong as those gram negs. Cepacia, smells alot like PA but more sour along with the rotten grape smell and flavor. Steno....that one is tough, doesn't taste a whole like PA, I think that one is kind of garbagey as well. Yeast, now that one smells like dough rising, but not in a good way.
I know there are other cooties that I have grown out and they too have their distinct aroma/taste but for the life of me, I can't remember them LOL. Just today, my daughter proclaimed that I stink like bacteria. She has a very keen sense of smell, usually can smell me before anyone else can. I was giving her a hug, when she said "Ewww, mom, it's the bacteria again"....hopefully my lungs will quiet down along with those smells, eh?
You aren't nuts that's for sure...my doc said that he has a few patients that are so heavily colonized with bacteria, that he too can smell them.
As far as the antibiotics, I have noticed that after a few days on them, my sputum tastes like the meds. Imi has a strong, cat pee smell and taste and I can definitely taste that one. I know that when I sweat, I also smell like the antibiotics that I am on, so it would be reasonable to say that your sputum would smell as well...so who knows, it could be that too.
We are a stinky bunch, aren't we LOL. Hope the smell goes away soon <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
