Willing Infection Away

Does anyone here find that if you tell yourself positive affirmations, they help? I got a sore throat and I am trying to say to myself that it isn't moving to my chest, and that if I believe I won't get an infection, I won't. I was just wondering if anyone else did this. I am putting sticky notes on my mirrors that say positive things. Anybody else do this? I haven't decided if it's helping, but I figure any positive things can make a difference. I'm also saying it here to just talk it out, which also seems to help. Thanks for listening. I would love to hear what you all do to stay positive with little things like notes.

Be well.

Yes, I do that sort of thing. More than anything, I also hold off going to the doc for an abx right away and often things do clear up on their own. I don't know if it's the positive thinking or steering clear of the MDs office that actually does it for me. I don't think that these treatment methods are endorsed too much around here though.

I believe in a very strong mild-body connection.

This is from www.accenthealth.com from Dr. Sanjay Gupta (sorry about all the caps...that's how it's posted)

"DR. RICHARD DAVIDSON, ONE OF THE WORLD'S LEADING EXPERTS ON THE MIND/BODY
CONNECTION HAS FOUND THAT THE PEOPLE WHO ARE UPBEAT HAVE A STRONGER IMMUNE
RESPONSE WHEN THEY ARE GIVEN A FLU VACCINE. THAT MEANS A POSITIVE OUTLOOK ACTUALLY MAKES
YOU LESS LIKELY TO GET THE FLU. "

I think there's much more that hasn't been studied about how the mind affects the body. Look at the so-called placebo affect. People are given sugar pills and their cholesterol is lowered, their impotence goes away, and their migraines go away. Not as frequently as with actual medicine, but still, there are many who respond to just thinking that they're going to feel better.

So I don't think you guys are too far off....

Emotional freedom technique is great for affirmations and programming them into our subconscious mind.

While tapping one could say,
"Even though I have this cold, my body is strong and knows what to do"

You tap along meridian end points while saying affirmations.

I know you can make yourself sick by negative thoughts and such so IMO it stands to reason, the positive will have the opposit effect..

YES! i beleive it! In fact i do it too!! As someone said the worst thing you can do is think negative about it b/c it DOES affect you. I had a similar problem like you 2 weeks ago, i caught a virus (at my respiraologists office too, nice eh?) and it attacked my throat. It hurt so much. I did everything i could to keep it from thinking it would go to my chest. I didn't worry if my chest hurt a bit if i coughed, b/c i knew it was possible that my chest COULD be IRRITATED from the virus in my throat.

I went to the doc and she confirmed that it was a virus. I just ate a lot of fruit, orange juice, took ColdFX, took it easy and made a doctors appt. with my immunologist so i could go a couple of days early for my Gamma (for those who don't know i was born with SCID - Severe Combined Immunodeficiency, the "bubble boy" disease) I didn't want to get sick so i felt the best thing to do was stay positive. It works!! Hope u feel better!
