Winter is here

We had a good fall respiratory wise; quite a few colds but did not turn into anything further. Post Christmas, my daughter has a persistant cough. She overall has been acting well, sleeping at night. We have her on her second round of oral anti's and I just feel like it's not going to cut it. I am bringing her in tomorrow for a sick visit; guess they should culture her. Wondering if she needs prednisone....We were just there a month ago and she had the best PFT's and appointment in such a long time. Course I had to say, to the doc "how nice it is for her to get a cold and get through it like anyone else" How quickly things change . Feeling nervous., Last winter she was so sick, not wanting a repeat of that!

Ugh! Hopefully she can get on some meds to kick it to the curb. Bleah!

Watching other people struggle this winter, I've been so nervous with the "waiting for the other shoe to drop" mentality. Any little cough, sniff or comment about tummy upset and I become hypervigilant. Sigh!

Keeping you in my thoughts!

My husband has been trying to stay in a lot more this winter-I am not sure if that is going to help but I hope that it does. I've been going out a lot more by myself and telling him to stay home because I am so scared of him getting sick. The winters are always the worst <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0"> Good luck with your daughter, maybe it is something you can catch in time before it gets too bad.

Loong day! PFT's were down, by 20%. Her lungs were wheezy too. Prednisone, and Stronger antibiotics, culture done, followup in 3 weeks. Basically home cleanout time. Bummer. Usually, we are doing this in March. Hoping the meds do the job and no unusual bugs show up in the culture.

Hope the meds work as well for your daughter! DS has had a cough since Thanksgiving so went to the dr for a culture a couple of weeks ago. Came back with a small amount of pseudomonas - whew! Thought it was going to be worse since DS hasn't coughed this much in awhile. He just finished tobi and cipro last week. He still has a mild cough - hopefully on the way to being completely over!

Please check out the recent thread in the adults section on the "horrible winter virus". Many of us have had it and man it is rough. It would be good to check bc lots of us had similar type symptoms that would be easy to identify-and thus get treatment fast before it sets in.
Healthy rest of the winter everyone! We're half way there!

Thanks, mamaScarlett. I checked out your thread. We had a really bad respiratory winter last winter so I was hoping for a reprieve. Ugh. My daughter is on prednisone and her hard core anti's. We have to wait for her culture to some back next week to check if something new is growing and deal with it if so. Funny, though she has not run any fevers at all. It's weird. Our family has not had it, either, Just my CF daughter, so maybe it's a CF exacerbation. Most of the kids in her class have coughs though. Anyway, I am keeping a close eye on her.
