Working full time

Hi all!
I was wondering how many of us work full time. Right now, I am in school, and I worry that once I get out I won't be able to work full time vor very long due to CF. So, I guess I am just looking for a little reassurance<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-blush.gif" border="0">

Hi Mary,
I will be 32 and have worked full time since I was 18...and even part time since I was 16. It has only been this last year and a half that I have not been able to work full time anymore. I havent felt well for a while and had quite a few problems last year. I believe I made the mistake of still trying to work full time even though my body was telling me to slow down. I should have slowed down sooner...but you know how that goes. Good luck to you!

Hi,

I am 35 and still working full time with no intention of quitting anytime soon. The key is to take the time off for hospital stays whenever necessary. I go in the hospital about every 6 months for treatment. Also, try and stick to a 40 hour week so you still have time for your daily treatments. I have found that my employers have been very accommendating to my health needs (probably because they are fearful in this litigious society). For the past three years I've owned my own consulting business. Well, good luck!

I'm 35 and worked from 40-50 hrs a week up until a year ago since I was 18. My advice is to stay active, don't let CF hold you back. But also keep an eye on yourself get your rests. I worked so much without listening to my body, I made me very sick and still trying to get back to normalcy. Know your limits but try not to be afraid. Try it if you can't at least you tried. The less active you become the more your pft's go down. Becky

I am 37 and have worked full time since 17. I really believe that having a regular job (if you physically can) keeps you going.
I got a deal that pays me while in the hospital (of course, I still have to do some work!) and vacation!
I work close to home so I can get Vest/chest PT 2-3 timed a day.

I'm 23 and have worked full time for 5 years. I was unemployed for 4 months a couple years ago and I know my health went down hill just from not being up and around 5 days a week. The key is to know your limits and take time off when you're sick.

I worked on and off for about ten years. Most of those years it was fulltime or more hours. These past 6 months, I noticed that I was not handling the stress of a working environment too well. My health started to suffer, so luckily I was able just to stop working. I am just about 27 now. I have to pace myself more now than I used too.<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-frown.gif" border="0">

Hi.....36 yr old female with CF. I work 2 jobs.....GAWD HELP ME!!! It's tiresome but it's better than sitting at home being bored.<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">

I say, go for it, work until you cant work anymore, I mean youve gotten this far with schooling, why do it all for nothing. People nowadays are telling me, just get on SSI and I say to myself, why did I do all those years of school to get an education and why did I do all the training programs if Im just gonna sit at home doing nothing?

Hi Mary,
I work 32 hours a week. Right now Im out of work until June because I just had surgery but I hope to get back to my regular schedule after my recovery. I find that working 32 hours is perfect for me because I have a day during the week to really focus on resting and taking it easy, which isnt always easy to do on the weekend!

I have been working since I was 16, full time since I was 19. I am still going strong(god willing) I am unsure of the particulars of your field but I would imagine it is one you can work at for a long while after you get "sick", I changed careers partially for that reason.
