my worst hospital experience was hands down was the experience of being intubated. intubated for almost 2 weeks, heavily sedated, out of my mind, delusional. felt like a vegetable trapped in my body. was horrrrrible. i have a lot of empathy now for people who are paralyzed and unable to communicate. it's unimaginably horrid to live in such a way.
aside from this, my worst hospital experience would be the experience of having a chest tube put in while conscious. i was numbed but still felt a lot of pressure, and when they pierced through the muscles between my ribs i could feel my lung deflate which felt like having the wind knocked out of me. i couldn't catch my breath and it felt like i was dying.
i look forward to hearing other people's stories
