Xopenex Inhaler vs. Nebulizer

We were given a prescription for xopenex inhaler with spacer to use when we are away from home for long periods of time and can't use the compressor. Does anyone else use the inhaler at times? Is it less effective than using the compressor? I've only used it a couple of times because I'm not sure how effective it is.

We have inhalers for albuterol and flovent for our 5-year old w/CF that we use (W/spacers) instead of the nebulized versions when time or travel make the nebulizer impossible. His CF doctor says he'll get more medicine from the nebulizer but the inhalers are an acceptable substitute.
