yeast cultured in the throat culture

I have a 1 yr old who cultured yeast in her throat culture in Oct. and cultured it again this month but 1 point higher and they put her on antibiotics and said it should take care of it. I thought it makes yeast worse when on antibiotics. She has no symptoms and her lungs are clear they said. Any heard of this.

I am not an expert on the yeast except that I know it is bothersome in certain areas. I know that in addition to getting a yeast infection from antibiotics you can get it from certain inhaled meds such as Advair & other steroids. I have had thrush of the mouth before & stopped the med, kept rinsing with salt water & it went away. I never consulted a doctor so I dont know if this was the correct thing to do. Once it went away I returned to the med, but made sure I rinsed my mouth after each use. I am not sure about your daughters, but I am ASSuming that depending on the bacteria depends on the meds used even tho antibiotics can be associated with yeast. I guess I wasnt much help, HUH? LOL

I have never personally had it cultured, but I have gotten it on my throat and tongue some from an anti-biotic. Is there a way to prevent it from happening? I wash and brush my teeth, but I don't know it's annoying and disgusting. When people say that you can tell how your health is by your tongue, at times I don't want to stick mine out. It's better now. I don't really want to take a medication because of the medication, thatpattern is more annoying than the issue itself.

My 4 yr old often cultures candida (yeast) after being on antibiotics for a while. Her clinic said they don't normally treat it as it doesn't affect the lungs, unless it's bothersome (it isn't bothering her at the moment that I can tell).

Hi,

I never heard of giving an antibiotic against yeast, because taking or inhaling antibiotics can cause yeast infections... Normally you take antimycotics (special medicine against yeast).
As I am often getting yeast I do take antimycotics whenever inhaling antibiotics like Colistin. I do the inhalation, wash my mouth with water and then take a liquid antimycotic, which I leave in my mouth for 1 or 2 minutes before swallowing.
When I do an IV I take tablets against yeast also from the beginning to the end of the IV.
You should also wash your mouth after each spray/powder inhalation containing steroids.
As far as I know there are also liquids for babies, which you can put in their mouth.
As you can infect somebody else with yeast by kissing etc. you should do something against it.

Hi there...I always culture yeast in my sputum as well as my sinuses. I am put on antifungals, not antibiotics when that happens. If I happen to be growing out bacteria as well then I have quite the cocktail...lots of antibiotics and mega doses of antifungals like Nystatin or Diflucan. Usually docs treat the yeast with drugs like that, antifungals and not antibiotics, yeasts usually doesn't react to the antibiotics, actually might get worse. I am no doctor, but since yeast has been a part of me for so long, I figure I should put my two cents in for you. I hope I have helped...Hugs, Jen <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
