YOUR BLOG MAY GET YOU IN TROUBLE!

Just in case you didn't know...

If you Google your name, all of your blog entrys will come up!

That's right! Everything you have written in your blog, highly personal or not, is available to anyone that Googles your name. Employers, potential employers, etc, etc, etc... anyone you might not want to know personal stuff about you has immediate access to what you have written.

I found this out by accident.

Some may be concerned, others won't be, ...in this age of illegal N.S.A. data collection and Government survailance. What's one more way people can snoop into our private lives anyway?

Just thought you all should know if you don't already.

I don't like it!!!

TAKING YOUR LAST NAME OFF DOES NOT WORK!

I did this about a month ago and can still google my name and all of my blogs come up. That is why I erased many of my blogs, and am very careful what I say there now.

Seana, Are you sure it doesn't work? What about on new posts you write since removing your last name? If this is so I need to remove my blog.

I just checked and my new blogs did come up. Now you have to realize I have a VERY rare name so when you goggle seana it is easy to find what you are looking for.

But, everyone should be aware your blog is public and anyone can go into it.

you have to assume when you post anything that it's always accessible by anybody.....

i never include my last name anywhere.....

That's what my BIL did to keep track of my nephew. Kid was skipping school, lying, partying and he and his girlfriend document every thing on their blogs.

One of my cousins is graduating from college and was warned that potential employers check the internet for blog sites and postings. There was just something on the today show about it, too! liza

Bill, So if I have my last name as B. on my profile it won't show my full last name anywhere on the web? It's been like that since the beginning I think.

For those of us who are not so internet savy, it would be nice for those offering blogs to post a clear warning to those that might be interested in having a blog, <b>that whatever you post </b><b> connected to your full name, is available for anyone on the net to read if they Google your name!</b>

Hey I used to google my name and get all kinds of weird hits on people who share my name. I personally don't care about "stuff getting out" really. I'm myself, and while I have some weird views i'm harmless. There is nothing that I would say on here that I wouldn't say in regular real life conversation with friends, family, coworkers, employers, etc.


Not like i'm responding with a big expose on how we need to purge our society of gay people or start rounding up the Jews or something.

Yes I am afraid of my last name. It has always been following my first name around, I think it is stalking it, and might be up to no good. Should I be concerned?

I just realized this last week, when I googled my name for the heck of it. I was shocked, I'm not very computer savvy, and didn't think of not using my last name. How can I change my username???

In the meantime, for those who don't have their last name in the user title (lisa, as Karen said just email bill, Easiest is to use the report to moderator button) you can go into your profile and delete your last name and put in real or fake letter or a fake name all together as Em said.

Peter, while I see your point in this and it's good you share it (I would have a long time ago if I had known this was so unknown), I don't think it's anybody's responsibility to explain it when you opt for a blog or post online. It's a risk that you take when you use the internet.

yeah mine comes up as my user name.............there is a Baptist pastor, a reverend and some guy who takes photos of helicopters with my name..............learn something new everyday

As for people reading the stuff ya write...ummm...isn't that why we're here?, who cares if somehow they link it too YOU...my advice (if it's embarrasing or awkward), do like ya should do with the cops...deny deny deny.....and deny again...how they gonna prove it's actually you?
