Zenpep

Brandon has always had eating issues and I have worked really hard at keeping his weight up and supplementing due to texture/food aversions. They even had threatened a feeding tube, which i refused, so I have been able to keep his weight up enough to prevent that but it still hasn't been as much as they would prefer. A few weeks ago his came home from a hospitalization and his stools continued to be off, I changed his Creon 1200 from 5 caps., to 6. This helped a lot!

At clinic today I told them that I had to raise it once again and they were very displeased at the amount. apparently who ever calculated the 5 dose was wrong and 6 is far too much. I was told for his weight and age he should be in the 2500-3000 lipase, he was taking 6000! they had discussed pancriacarb, either with the creon or on its own, but last minute decided to try this new zenpep.

I am looking for any feed back on zen pep or pancriacarb and what any one takes besides Creon when Creon didn't work..

Both boys are on Pancrecarb. It is coated in sodium bicarbonate, which helps the enzymes to get through the acidic stomach to wherever they need to go. We really saw a difference when we switched.
I think sometimes just a switch in different brands of enzymes makes things better, at least for a while.
I would definitely recommend Pancrecarb. They were talking about putting Caleb on an acid reducer, but I pushed for the change to pancrecarb instead and he is doing great.

blessings,
melissa

Emily started out on Creon, but when she topped out on it - probably at around a year old, or so, I think - she switched to Pancrecarb. It has worked well for her, for the most part. It took some adjusting, at first, which I think is true for most enzymes.

In her case, it did take the addition of the g-tube feedings and the enzyme that goes with it to really stabilize her weight and the "quality" of her stool. It wasn't until her body started to get the nutrition it needed through the tube that the enzye was fully able to do it's job. For us, the tube was absolutely the right choice.

I'll be interested to hear if anyone is on Zenpep. I know that some people go through lots of enzymes, as one becomes ineffective after a while. It's always good to know what's out there.

Good luck.
