Zyvox

They were going to attempt to treat Zeke's VRE and had him on Zyvox but he had (what we think) horrible side effects that included his WBC count nosediving to 5.5 and his platelet count doing likewise. He also started taking on fluids, gaining over a kilo in 3 days.

They stopped it early yesterday morning and he started urinating better and lost over a lb of fluid since yesterday.

I know if they don't treat- then his gut will become permanently colonized with it and though it won't cause problems eventually, he will always have to be on contact precaution when hospitalized from here on out.

Has anyone had similar symptoms to Zyvox? The infectious disease specialist they called said he thought it caused the blood counts to be bad, but didn't say anything about the excess fluid.

Yes my son had very similar side effects. He ended up being hospitalized for ascites, fluid in the abdomen, and his platelets were so low he needed a blood transfusion. it was very frightening but when he came off he got much better and has not had those symptoms since. This all occurred in December.
