I would get a flush set up as soon as possible. If it isn't occluded, then it will flush fine and all will/should be okay. If resistance is met, then I am afraid that more aggressive measures will be taken to make it patent again.. They would most likely use a clot buster if that happened, if that didn't work, then radiology will check it out.. Worst case scenario, the port is no longer usable and would need to be replace...but hopefully all you will need is a a simple flush and then keep the monthly schedule going to prevent any problems <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Call your clinic, if you do not have a home nursing agency. I always check up with the agency to have mine flushed, they probably get annoyed because I call to make sure they have me on the list for that given week.

While most everyone does the recommended monthly flushes, there are a few out there like me who do not flush at all. I have gone over a year between uses and all was well. I used to do the monthly flush thing but then I read about someone who's surgeon said that it isn't necessary. So I stopped (mostly because I forgot to flush). I was super nervous the 1st time I needed to access it after not doing the flushes but it was fine. I'm NOT saying you shouldn't flush but don't freak out that it is clotted because chances are that it isn't. My port is now 11 years old btw.
