Sorry to hear this Michelle. I hope the 3 hour goes better but at least we have this great testing available to us to help us stay as healthy as possible during pregnancy, right? JohnnaMarie developed gestational diabetes during her recent pregnancy and managed it well with diet. Maybe you could PM her for some support?? My clinic is having me skip the 1 hr. and go straight to the 2 hr (what's the 3 hr?) OGTT. I think I get it at 24 weeks. I'll be 20 weeks along on Friday.

I failed the one hour when I was pregnant with my son and passed the three hour.

This time, my cf doc wanted me tested early so I had the one hour done at 21 weeks. I failed it with a 145. The high risk OB I've been seeing told me that she was not concerned, that the number was not too bad and I'd probably pass the 3 hour. I had been checking my sugars at home and had never, in the two weeks since, had a level higher than 109. Last week, at 23 weeks, I did the 3 hour and passed. On the day of my test, I brought my own meter and tested myself after each blood draw. The range of acceptable levels the nurse listed for the test were:
fasting 65-94
1 hour - less than 180
2 hour - less than 155
3 hour - less than 140

According to my meter, my results were:
fasting 78
1 hour 175
2 hour 99
3 hour 95

Good luck on your next round and bring a book!

I was tested at 11 weeks as I am borderline diabetic anyway and I failed the 1 hour and was 'borderline' failing 3 hour so we just called it gestational anyway to be on safe side. I never had to do anythign other than monitor my diet mine was rarely ever high and when it was it was usually self induced due to bad choice. For a while my am was high but I started eating high protein low carb bedtime snack and it was fine.

I would be happy to answer any ?'s you have, both my sisters are type 1 diabetics and my mom had gestational and so I already knew alot about diabetes anyway. It may be different for us though because I am pancreatic sufficient so my foods I ate may not be sufficient for you.

I agree take a book and an mp3 if you have it so you dont have to hear the babies crying with all pokes!

I failed the three hour with my son. But then I never went on a controlled diet - I just watched my sugars and they were never high. There are some questiosn as to how this test is conducted - I for one would never take in that much glucose on an empty stomach, kwim? GD is very serious, for sure, and Cf moms can be prone to it, but I think that we also might just be prone to failing the test witht hat much sugar at once. I passed the one hour with my daughter's pregnancy with flying colors. If you fail the three hour, see if they will allow to you monitor your sugars on your normal diet for a week or so before you need to go to a diabetic diet - maybe you'll be OK?? good luck!

Thanks for all of your replys and sharing your experiences. Last night I went to Whole Foods and got some good protein snacks. I am going to start eating more of a balanced protein to carb ratio, which i was not doing. I am craving a lot of fruit so hopefully watching how much I eat and balancing it with the protein will help.

I am going to get my 3 hour test done on Wednesday, I will give you an update when I find out the results.

Thanks everyone!

Good luck, Michelle.

I am borderline diabetic so I am familiar to a point about the glucose tests and numbers. As a matter of fact, I have to get my A1C and a glucose tolerance test done tomorrow, Friday. It's the 2 hour one. I haven't had any done in nearly 2 years so I guess I'm a little overdo. I take one and pass. Then in a few years take another another and fail. It's been that way since I was 16. I'm not on anything, though. My sugars are so close to normal that avoiding sugars alone is enough. Sometimes, my sugars go months way normal. I know I'm weird.

Good luck to you!!! You'll be in the thoughts!!! If I get good luck, I'll send it your way!!!
