Well, the bacterial cultures for my greenish strecked/tinted mucus came back NEGATIVE as did the yeast cultures! The doctors are conviced that it is the CF that is causing the problem with conceiving. This is what I thought but was too afraid to really find out for the past few months... I DID NOT have any other problems, such as itching, burning, or anything else.

Honestly, I'm stumped, disappointed, sad, and ... I actually was kind of hoping they would have found something wrong. It would have been easily fixed unlike CF. I don't know what to think...

Here I am with MILD CF, FEV1 68%, NO DIABETES, VERY REGULAR CYCLES, AND ALL. I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!!! I NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD BE IN THIS BOAT. I'VE WATCHED SO MANY GET PREGNANT AND DELIVER AND EVEN GET PREGNANT AGAIN, BRITNEY SPEARS. STILL HERE I AM... I'M OVERWHELMED!!! PLUS, I JUST GOT MY PERIOD TODAY SO I'M EXTRA EMOTIONAL... I JUST WANT TO CRY!!! I'M JUST SO ....

I know how hard this is. I felt very similar trying to have my daughter - and I had a child, so I knew I could concieve, but then- but we didn't get pregnant and didn't get pregnant and didn't get pregnant - meanwhile all my friends were concieving. It is very hard. But, if they say its caused by CF then can you be proactive and get started with an IUI cycle? Clearly they can see your cm is a problem. I would push for the clomid too, only to increase your chances since the IUIs are not cheap. Hang in there! Many of us have been there and we are here for you and you are going to have a baby! (((HUGS)))

So many of us know exactly how you are feeling because we have been there. It took us 14 cycles of obsessive trying - basal body temp, charting, CM, OPK, timed intercourse, blah, blah, blah, to get pregnant. Before all of that I had been off birth control for about 2 years and we never used protection, no pregnancies. Unfortunately having CF makes getting pregnant even more difficult. Hang in there, take care and stay strong. You can get pregnant and you can have a baby. A positive pregnancy test is on its way to you. Your period started today and that is heartbreaking but at the same time it means you are one cycle to the cycle in which you conceive!

Oh honey,
Sending you a huge warm hug.
The bad news:
This isn't the problem you wanted, its complicated.
The good news:
MANY of us cfers have had the same problem-and there are pictures of them and their children here on this site-it can be done! Its completely possible.
Now its up to you to decide what you want to do. No one can tell you that. If you want to get pregnant that option is here for you, and you know that (deep down, even though you are upset now). If you don't want to-thats ok too.
I know how easy it is to get bad news and then take the weight of the world on you at the same time.
But your fev1 has nothing to do with it-its no reflection on your cf, and look at where Britney Spears' pregnancies have gotten her: divorced and in rehab. So don't take the weight of the world on you. Yes, its disappointing-but this power is still within you. You know where to go next if you want to pursue this.
You'll be ok. Be strong, and above all be optimistic. Even if you don't know the answer yet-tell yourself it will be ok and believe it.

Jennifer,

I can hear the desperation in your post. I was there 3 years ago. I had been TTC for 2 years before we finally did IVF. We did 3 rounds of IUI first, but it turns out I have stage IV endometriosis as well.

I ttc'd on my own "naturally" with bbt's and cm and opk's before we turned to an RE for help. What a waste of a year! I knew I wanted to be pregnant if at all possible. I definitely knew I also wanted to be a mom. It was sort of a calling for me and now I am a mom. And I was right. I love it. And you will too.

I would suggest going to an RE. They will do an exam first thing, as well as order SA for your husband. (I know you said he already had one, but things can change.) If you have no blocked tubes and no endo, or other issues, they might start you on IUI ASAP. It's painless. I went through it 3 times. I had a 50% copay, so it cost me $300 cash ($600 retail without insurance) to do one IUI cycle. So cheap compared to adoption and IVF. Money was definitely an issue for us. We ended up paying 100% out of pocket for IVF and our single cycle cost $15K. But I understand adoption runs about the same?? I'm not too familiar with adoption costs. I would have been open to adoption if IVF failed. I just wanted to be a mom, and no one was going to stop me.

It does have all the rewards you have been dreaming about. Don't give up. Do what you need to do. I'm actually relieved to find out you don't have an infection. I've been following your posts. Good luck to you. Hang in there.

Jennifer, i only have a bit of what I hope might be helpful but I'm hoping.

First, if you do turn to an RE, whatever you do TELL THEM you have been TTC for OVER a YEAR. Many RE's won't see you (sometimes even if there is an identifiable problem) unless you've been trying for a year. So if you have to fudge that up, PLEASE do to get yourself some treatment. This might also affect any infertility ins. coverage you might have.

Have you considered trying anything like accupuncture? Not sure if it would be any assistance since cm is clearly the issue, but it might be worth a try. my 2 sessions during my IVF were about $150.

Like Julie suggested, acupuncture is a great option. I have been going for acupuncture once a week for the past two months. This month (period just arrived) we are going to try to work specifically with my cervical mucus thickness issues. Prior to this we were working on my overall health which was my choice. Had I wanted to just deal with the mucus issues the acupuncturist would have been open to that. Since I have been going for acupuncture I have noticed a real increase in my energy levels, always a good thing. If you are interested I can report back on the cervical mucus issues once we start treatment.
