Gas/stomach woes from NAC

I started taking fizzy NAC again. I've been having insane gassiness and just an uncomfortable feeling...ugh.
I was wondering if I'm the only one to experience this and if I should expect it to get better with time. I really don't want to feel this miserable long term.

I haven't experienced it yet.. After the blockage I had in dec. my dr. said I should try it. Although , he didn't say fizzy ?? I also went back to some older posts & one (or more) said some brands can be harmful ? That worries me. Do you know anything about that ?? joni

I"ve never heard of it being harmful, only that it does irritate the stomach-actually to be clear that glutathione irritates the stomach..so thats not the same thing per se.
All I've heard is that many forms of this stuff are basically not able to be absorbed by the body, so you can have to take the right form. The fizzy NAC, like alka seltzer, that you drop into water is highly absorbed.
To my knowledge this is the best type, but its been a while since I researched it. Sakem (amy) was the NAC guru-she helped me alot. But she's not around on these boards much.
If you are Amy give us a holla and an NAC update.

Not Amy here, but I'll answer.
I've been using the "fizzy" NAC for a few years now. The reason that some of us have chosen this form of n-acetyl cysteine is because it is the same stuff that Stanford is using for studies on NAC and inflammation.
From my understanding, the effervescent form is more stable/pure. You can order it from BioAdvantex and it is called pharmaNAC.
If you enroll in the autoship program, you'll save money and also have free shipping.
I have not noticed any stomach problems from taking this, but my stomach is also very strong and although I am pancreatic insufficient, I only take 6 enzymes a day. I don't know if that is relevant or not, but I'm putting it out here anyway.

I have been trying to start it with my 7 year old. Everytime I start it, his poops go absolutely crazy. I have not gotten brave enough to go beyond a couple days with him on it.

blessings,
missa

Hey guys,

#1 Sakem was never me - I used to be sakasuka before being kicked off. Sakem was not me (in fact, Sakem and I disagreed quite a bit)

#2 MamaScarlett I'm sorry to hear you're getting gassy on NAC. That's no fun. I've never had gas/tummy irritations from NAC and I've been taking it for 6 or 7 years now.

#The reason that Fizzy NAC made in pharmaceutical grade conditions from Canada is better than any other type is because it's highly regulated. Non prescription supplements and vitamins aren't regulated in the US as they are in Canada and Europe, therefore purity and stability can't be guaranteed. With NAC, it can oxidize easily and this is harmful to the body. I'm guessing Stanford used PharmaNAC because of the careful manufacturing standards.

Hope you feel better MamaScarlett

Um OK WOW....sorry Amy...Please chalk it up to a severly sleep deprived mother of a crazy 4 year old and 7 month old who eats all night long...LOL. Wow major brain fart there.
