Hi I'm 20 with cf and have never had a lung infection. I wanted to know how exactly you know when you have one... I think i have one but dont know the syptoms or anything. Hello, Your question is right up my alley, i am on IV antibiotics right now for lung infections (not to scare ya). Some symptoms that i get are... very tired (like feel like no matter how much i sleep i still want more), coughing more and most of the time coughing out more mucus, easily tired out, i have a 3 year old and if i can't keep up with him or hold him for very long it is a good indication that things are going wrong in me. You are very lucky if you have never had a lung infection! I am 19 and have never been in the hospital for one, but I sure do get them. My symtoms are usually based 99% on my mucus. If it gets darker or thicker or more abundant then I know I have an infection. I also usually feel congestion in my chest like you would in your nose with a head cold. If you think you have an infection I would go to your doc right away cause the sooner you deal with it the better it is. Also, if you have never gotten one before your doc will probably treat it with some oral antibiotics and an increase in your chest pt. Good luck!
oh girl, you're lucky to never have a lung infection! you keep up with that, it's very good. the later you start, the better. my symptoms usually include being more tired, sleeping more, sometimes fever, sometimes i cough up blood, coughing more, being more congested, harder to breathe, lung pains. basically any combination of any of the above. it's not fun, but it's not a big deal either. usually antibiotics [oral/IV] solve this in a couple of weeks. if you have a change in your general feeling, call your doctor.and what's most important in treating CF, *smile*! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
My symptoms of an infection is losing weight feeling like all your food is coming out, coughing more and espesially inthe morning - like big coughing fits , more sputom, sometimes darker and thicker, pain on my right side, coughing up blood, feeling cold and shivering. It sounds like a lot and it is . . In other words feeling louzy!
