My name is Becky, I have two sons with cf, Connor (4), and Colton (4 months), and I have a daughter with no cf, Kaylin (7). I am very glad to join the cf forums. Both of my boys have the double Delta F508 gene mutations. My 4 year old has only been hospitalized once, when he was 1 1/2. My 4 month old is now in the hospital again (for the THIRD time). He has had 3 surgeries and has been on antibiotics and steroids lots. He just recently cultured psuedomones <---- (?). I thought that since both of my boys have the same gene mutation that they would have the same degree of sickness, but it seems that the baby is a lot sicker than Connor has ever been. Colton has been in the hospital almost 1/2 of his little life.

Hope that helps!

Hi Becky. Welcome to the site. There is a lot of great info here and everyone is so wonderful and helpful. I am so sorry your little guy is having so much trouble. My son is 4 and he has CF. We are also in for a tune up ( I replied to you on my thread). I totally know what is like to have a little one who is sick all the time. CF can effect everyone differently even those with the same mutations. No one responds in the same way. There is a multitiude of other factors that influnce the outcome of this disease. My son also has pseudomonas and this time it really hurt him. His lung function was down and he was so sick. The IV antibiotics have really helped him and he responded beautifully. What a relief. I just want to let you know that I will keep you in my prayers and I hope you get out of the hospital soon! We are also in for a full tune up and it is aweful when they feel so much better and want to go home but they have to stay <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0">

Welcome, Becky. I'm sorry your little one is in the hospital, and struggling. As you're discovering, CF affects every person differently. Even identical twins can have very different clinical outcomes. I hope that Colton improves very soon. Keep us posted.

Hi there ,
just spotted your post. We have a little boy and girl with DDF508 and they have both cultured pseudomonas lately. They both show very different symptoms at times so I think it's not just the main genes that are a factor. Is there anything else that may be a factor such as staph ?

Hi!
Just wanted to say that I am 37 w/CF and I also have a brother who is 30 w/CF. We both are DDF508. We both have respiratory and digestive issues...but the severity is very different between the two of us. We do, however usually both culture pseudomonas.
Good Luck to you...I hope Colton is doing better soon!
