Does anyone have info on steroids for gaining muscle?

I am 21 and have very mild CF. I am wondering about taking anabolic (muscle building) steroids? I am wondering if the risks and side effects are the same as for "normal" people. I am only interested in the over the counter ones of course and I am not at all wanting to be a body builder. I am just absolutely sick of being about 5'10" and only 125 lbs. I have tried alot of working out and loads of protein and calories with no results. I want to give some "over the net" steroids a shot but I am concerned about the additional or increased risks for CF'ers, if there are any. Let me know what you think! Thanks

What I think is that you shouldn't try them. (yet)
I'm a CF'er with similair height and (or used to) weight at a Fev1 of ~35% , pancrease insufficient but I haven't got that much trouble putting muscleweight on when I do things right for a while, without steroids.
So I suspect your excersize and nutricion can be improved but it's hard to say from here. Still steroids should really be a last resort and if you're a mild CF'er as you say, I'm sure much more is possible without them.

Some things I'd suggest without knowing your diet or workout routine:
How are your legs? Do you train them? Lots of weight to be gained there: squat. If you train at home there's lots of ways you can do powerful squats, I do them on one leg, holding extra weight, and making the upward movement as fast and explosive as possible, then slowly down. You can even jump going up, you can put your leg on a chair and stand up and down on it etc. to vary. They also help build your back and abs and that should really add weight.

Eating more is the only way to gain muscle, and I know how hard that is. Remember however, with steroids you'd need to eat EVEN MORE.
Here in Holland, most CF'ers use some nutricion supplements to get in a lot of calories and proteine in an easy way. I use Resource 2.0 Fibre and that has 400KCal and 18grams of proteine in a small 200ml bottle. I take 3-4 of those a day. So if you could get something like that in your diet you could get a good 1000-1500KCal a day more.
Other then that, pancakes are compact with lots of energy and proteine so those are great. I don't even bother making them I buy ready made bags at the supermarket.

Do a high intensity full body workout 2-3x a week, to really get to most out of your muscles. You'll know from your joins and tendons when you start to overtrain and then you should lay off a bit. Make sure you rest and sleep enough. Powernaps are great.

Maybe it's easier to motivate yourself if you work out at home. At home I can work out when I want, how I want, without people giving me odd stares when I throw a coughing fit. You don't need much but one or two good heavy dumbells, piece of open floor, something to do pull ups on (open stairs, door, something) and creativity to figure out good heavy excersizes for all your muscles. Once you gain some strength, it's also pretty motivating to keep it up because after 2-3 days of rest you start to feel it go and you'll want to work out.

Ah well, you say you don't at all want to be like a body builder, but it's the mentality and dedication you'll need to gain weight. Imho steroids aren't worth it at all at first and probably pretty dangerous when you haven't gotten results already without them, and when you can't put on weight (bulk) without them.

Long story, hopefully some of it was useful. Goodluck
