ultrasound

Hi there,
Not really Cf related per se, but I'm going to my 2nd trimester ultrasound tomorrow. For those of you who have had one, or are pregnant and just had yours, can you tell me what to expect?
How long was it?
Also-My husband and I decided to refuse all type of fetal diagnosing. So during the 1st ultrasound, they didn't do the measuring test and blood test for Down's syndrome or Trisomy testing either. We refused it b/c of the high chance of false positives (which even the OB said is the case), and b/c if there was a problem like that, which the doc's couldn't do anything about we wouldn't terminate the pregnancy anyhow.
So thats the reason, in case anyone was wondering-What I'm leading up to is with tomorrow's ultrasound as well, we don't want any type of diagnostic test done on the baby for these diseases. Did anyone experience these tests during their 2nd tri ultrasound? The OB said that they do all types of measurments, so if they saw something blatantly abnormal, or something that they could intervene and try to fix they'd say so. But thats all she mentioned.
Ok, thanks. And hope everyone is feeling good.

I know the only thing the really looked for in my ultrasouds was signs of bowel blockage and they measured every little bone that they could, and they should even be able to see the sex of the baby.

It's so fun!!! It'll take about 15 minutes, the lights will be turned off and get the lovely "jelly" on your tummy. They'll measure the bones and facial structures, the heart and internal organs, and the boy/girl parts. I had no idea what anything was or where it belonged, but the techs know what they are doing. Enjoy this visit it is very reassuring!

I had quite a few ultrasounds (mainly because hubby wanted to see something between the legs.....it never happened lol). The worst part is having the full bladder and them pressing down especially if the baby isnt in a "perfect" position. Ultrasounds have come a long way since I had Jazmine and you can really get a good idea of the "features" of the baby. I will never forget that Jazmine stretched her legs during one and I said "OMG she has her Dads legs" and she does. They go all the way up to her butt LOL! Enjoy the time!

Mine was about 30 minutes - they made sure she had a full bladder, two working kidneys, no echogenic bowel, 4 chmbers of the heart, looked for a complete brain, no spina bifida - we didn't find out the sex, so they never looked "down there" - are you going to find out the sex? Exciting! Post your pictures!!

Its at 3 today, I'm so excited. I'm still not used to going to the hospital for a happy reason! Its very confusing and nice for a change.
I know everyone will ask what the sex is-but we're not finding out!!! Yes, we are very old fashioned. Our parents and siblings never found out with their pregnancies and we like it that way. There are so few real surprises in life.

Hi Christian - How exciting! I loved having ultrasounds - and we never found out the sex of our kids either - it was always a SURPRISE!! Almost everyone finds out these days.

My cousin was told that they were going to have a down's baby when she was pregnant. They both did alot of volunteering through the special olympics - which I thought was ironic. Anyway after being told that for almost 9 months - they had a healthy little boy!!! Not only their 1st kid but having to worry about the health of their baby. I think this does happen to alot of people - unfortunetly!
