Coughing up Blood

I ask this in this section as I figured not everyone who has had children checks the pregnancy section. So, has anyone who has been pregnant also been one to cough up blood. We are looking to start a family and right now that seems to be the biggest issue. I had 7 coils put in last year, after an awful bleed, and last night I coughed up about a tablespoon, I had gone 11 months without any blood - I was so excited things had been going well, then last night happened. I know a tablespoon isn't much but to me it means a great deal.

So, if you been pregnant and been a lung bleeder, I just want to hear your story.

Thanks.

Bleeding sucks and is so scary...I am sorry that you are having this happen. Although I have been a bleeder for years...and have had 5 pulmonary embolizations I have never had coils put in so I am not familiar with that. Here is my experience with pregnancy and bleeding.

I have been a bleeder since 18 years old. Then I had my upper left lobe removed when I was 19 because of the chronic bleeding. I then coughed up a teaspoon or two on and off over the next few years but nothing major. When I was 27 and 6 weeks pregnant with our first child (I have three) I had a major bleed that shared the sh*t our of us. I was put on oral antibotic for the duration of the pregnancy and didn't have another bleed. Delivery was normal. For the other two pregnancies I was automatically put on an oral antibiotic...no bleeds. I have since had the rest of my left lung removed in 1999 due to hemoptysis as it was getting severe for the two years prior to surgery...since then I am doing well and so are my three children who are now 21, 20 and 17. My last bleed of 1 1/2 teaspoons was just about one year ago.

I hope you get the info you are looking for. Good luck with your future plans.

According to my doctor cfers with hemoptysis either bleed more or less during pregnancy. The blood volume in the mother's body nearly doubles. For me pregnancy took away my bleeding just about all together. I had a few times of streaking and one time of a tablespoon. Before pregnancy and after (unfortunately) I bleed on a regular basis. Not very much volume. Never more than 3 tsp. I felt the best I've ever felt in my life while pregnancy. My disclaimer is that pregnancy effects everyone differently. For some reason one of my bleeding triggers is breastfeeding...strange. I think it's when I am too reclined. If you get a glider don't get one that reclines unless a reclined position is not one of your trigger positions. PM me with any specific questions. Also check out my blog.

I did not have any bleeding while I was pregnant, I gave birth in December and have only had a streak in July when I had pneumonia. But no bleeding. I even ended up on IV's 2 months before delivery due to run down, icky lungs, Ihave never been sick enough to get IV's and NOT bled. For me, the bleeding reduced. I normally bleed when I get sick or sometimes just 'bonus' bleeding but I am not someone iwth 'triggers' that I have figured or someone who bleeds really regularly, maybe 1-3x a year. I cannot say pregnancy was nice ot me in any way other than this so I am NOT in same boat as Lauren .
