Coughing up Blood

I have had history of hemoptysis as long as I have had my CF diagnoses. I never have had to embolizations tho I am sure if the doctors knew how bad some were I wouldnt be saying that.

During my pregnancy I went until my 8th month without any bleeds. My first bleed in my 8th month I would not have been concerned with if I had not been pregnant. I went in for a clean out because of it.

I also did not do treatments before, during or after it. I was very non compliant until I was 30 years old.

The extent of any treatment has been iv or oral meds for infection, vitamin K (both shots & oral if bad enough) & whatever else was needed at the time.

<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">Hello,
My name is Alaina and I am a lung bleeder as well. I just coughed up blood about 5 minutes ago. My bleeding started when I was about 18 and I was diagnosed with CF shortly after that. I have had 6 embolizations throughout the years. My worst being about two years ago. I will go a few months with bleeding and then have several weeks with bleeding. I have a 3 year old daughter. I was worried before I got pregnant about coughing up blood during pregnancy but amazingly I was extremely healthy. It was the best I had ever been. The bleeding started again about 4 months after I had Reaghan. I bleed mostly around my period time. The doctors are trying to correlate to edimetrial tissue in my lungs but they are still working on that. I had a bronchoscopy done on Monday so they could sample tissue cells and to find where my bleeding was coming from incase they needed to embolize again.

How do you handle coughing up blood? And your husband? My husband gets so upset and worried. I would love to talk more.

I have bled a handful of times in the past few years but I don't remember bleeding any while pregnant. I've never needed an embolization though. For me, bleeding seems to be correlated with my lungs being irritated (you know - the dry hacking cough) but not infected. I haven't bled since probably april though. Fingers crossed.

The first time I coughed up blood I was on a cruise ship in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Talk about scary! But it was only a few tablespoons and I was fine.
