Do you or have you made your own baby food?

Emma is eating 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Stage Foods. Instead of continuing to buy jarred food, I am thinking I would like to prepare the food myself.

Anyone else do this for their baby? Do you have any suggestions?

I made it for Ethan when he was a baby and now for Caleb.
I buy the packages of organic veggies at Whole Foods...steam them until they are nice and tender....blend them or use a food processor(you can make them however mushy you want them, even by adding water to them)...and freeze them in ice cube trays....i usually give Caleb a yellow/orange (sweeter) veggie and a green veggie mixed together.
Warning since you have been giving jarred food to Emma she may not care for the texture so I would start really mushy.
When I get out and defrost a cube of veggies, I add some flax seed oil and lots and lots of salt.
Blessings,
Missa

I make most of Amelia's food. I have a Dex baby food grinder (it's great). We just grind up whatever we make and freeze any extra for lunches. You just add a bit of water if needed. I've made applesauce too, which is delicious when it is still warm.

You can find baby food recipes online or buy books but since you are already to 3rd foods it probably makes more sense to just grind up whatever you cook so that baby gets used to eating what everyone else eats. Use Gerber bowls with lids or similar containers to freeze extra so you can just microwave it. When Amelia was tiny I used ice cube trays but as she ate larger portions I found the bowls to be more efficient.

The nice thing about making your own food is that it can be more filling and nutritious. Since I'm the one with CF I usually cook healthy for all of us anyway. Amelia is already used to the garlic that I add to just about everything. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Yes we also made both our kids food from scratch, they ate what we ate really. What we did do was flavour with at least 2 herbs, rather than salt.
It really was easy for us as we have always cooked our own food.
