getting irritated by people who say this to me

Hehe this is funny.. I actually like it a lot when people tell me I don't look sick at all, it's the best compliment anyone can give me.
I've also always believed that I could do everything - and more - that healthy people could, which is probably why I have lived in 4 different countries in the past 10 years with FVI1 in the 30s.

Yes, denial goes a long way, and as long as I keep doing my treatments and taking care of myself, I think it's helped me get this far. :) (My doctors agree).

Iamqueen - I understand how it can get annoying but there's only one way to prove them wrong!

Personally, what I dislike hearing the most is "There's Vera, eating meat with spaghetti and all that butter again..." (I do tend to eat the same thing a lot)
or "Ah, I knew it was you because I could hear you clear your throat <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">"

I know what you mean about peopl saying you "don't look sick." I was in the hospital and one of the nurses had the nerve to ask me if I was a "professional patient." I got very upset and told my doctor. She made him apologize and do some length;y reading about CF. Needless to say he asked to be transferred to the other sie of the floor. I personally do not believe nursing was his calling.

My favorite was shd I turn myself inside out. I feel like saying that very often, I always get the well you don't look sick. I think it's because I am short and petite in size?? They shd hear me cough for hrs. on end.. fustrating but you have to be forgiving they just don't understand. Pat 57/CF

i get that spiel a lot. i enjoy living my life, and when people suggest i shouldn't, i just smile, nod, and let them think they're right, then go out and proceed as usual! i've got a growing list of exciting things that i was "crazy" for doing, and my life is all the more satisfying for it. the best thing is to let their comments slide, and to do it with a mischievous grin. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">

I also get the "you don't look sick". One the road to my diagnosis, I went to my doctor, with a pnemumonia, feeling awfull, and the doctor didn't believe me. I always put makeup on and do my hair, and put on a brave face, that's how I am. The doctor had to do this blood test on my, to check my "something", he pinched my finger and went into the next room to perform the test, came back 5 min. later, and said, you my lady are sick. Yes, thank you, I am! He said that normaly people who have pnemonia, come in sweating and looking almost near death. And there I was, looing "normal". And I also had a very low fever, I never get high ones. But sick I was.

Now, whenever I get sick and have to go to the hospital, my MIL always says, don't put make-up on, or when I have to go back to work, don't do your hair. But no, this is how I am, and I'm not going to play "looking sick" just to people believe me.

Don't ever let other people decide what you can't do. I'm 56 have a lung function in the low 20's and am a full time over the road truck driver. If you want to travel around the country in an RV then do it and have fun doing it. People have been trying to tell me what I can't do for the last 50 years and the only reason I'm still above ground is because I hardly ever pay any attention to them.
