How many of you have chronic chest discomfort?

I have had chronic chest discomfort, right into my ribs and back. It is dull for the most part, not sharp at all, worse when I cough a lung out but it is always there even after I settle down. My doc attributes it to chronic coughing as well as myopathy issues (gotta have something to complicate things). I am on pain meds, a Fentanyl patch...but sometimes nothing works even breakthrough meds or heat. It is getting worse, harder to control...I know I have to bring it up to my doc, I have a visit really soon, but I just want to know if any of you guys deal with this too. Sometimes I dread chest physio, but I know it is necessary or I pay dearly. I also wonder if another infection is brewing, it has happened to me before. GAhhhh, so frustrating! If you've had X-rays and the Dr. has ruled out everything, ask for a bone scan. It's really simple; they inject you with a dye and about an hour later you lay on a table while a machine scans your body, looking for broken bones. I had an unidentified pain for a very long time, before I saw the right person and they suggested a bone scan. Turns out, the X-rays couldn't pick up that I had 3 broken (splintered) ribs. They took about 4-5 months to heal, because I was always coughing. It was extremely painful and I wouldn't wish that pain on my worst enemy.

The only thing I have had has been pleuresy. WIth that it was more time then anything that got rid of it. Heat, anti inflammatories and extra treatments. Sorry I cant help you more. I hope it eases and is nothing serious!

Thanks for your suggestions...I am sure the doc will do some medievil things to me to figure it out, more than likely she will do a Xray first to make sure no infection is there, the bone scan idea is a good one...years ago while on prednisone I was diagnosed with osteopenia, who knows, perhaps my ribs do have cracks in them that the xrays won't pick up. Either way, relief has to come....I have had pleurisy at least 3 times, usually that feels like a knife in my ribcage with each breath, but you never know, it might be presenting differently this time if it is. Hugs to all of you, jenn <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

If your doctor cannot find anything, perhaps try acupuncture. Someone who is experienced in pain management. I hope you feel better.

In the meantime, tap along the front and back of the wrists as well as massaging the fingers. I hope this helps with your pain. There are pain zones in these areas.
