Hey, i find that sometimes during certain days of the month I do have a harder time breathing. For a while I also went off birth control to see if that had any effect on my lung function but I found after 3 months it didn't change. Maybe its all in our heads, or it makes us feel more tired overall so we think its just our lungs but maybe it's our whole body in general? Hope that helps.

Hey, funny you asked that because for the first time this month I noticed that I felt more tired and overall crappy on the day that I was ovulating. It could have been a coincidence, especially since I only noticed it this month, but it could also be related.

<span style="font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #3366ff;">i've also wondered if there is a link between CF and "that time of month" ... i have often felt like overall crap during that week (or at least a few days of it), very tired and even ran low-grade fevers! i'm not sure if there is a correlation but it'd be interesting to know!

http://www.emaxhealth.com/11306/estrogen-aggravates-cystic-fibrosis-reports-new-study

(This May, a study in Ireland showed higher levels of estrogen, produced in the follicular phase (pre-ovulation), encourage the conversion/growth of mucoid PA in women and may be responsible for the worse disease course in women with CF.)

I don't know about you all, but I've had at least one dr tell me my cycle-related observations were coincidence, so the fact that this study was done made me REALLY happy. "opening a field of bacterial endocrinology" should be good for all the post-menopausal slender women getting MAC/MAI too.

I have noticed this for many years. It took me realizing that I was just starting, just finishing or on my period when I was in the hospital very often. I thought it was weird and it sucked because ya know laying in a bed while on your period and not feeling good on top of it is no fun. So to answer you question YES I start feeling worse around ovulation through period time. I get my normal exacerbation signs (coughing more, coughing up more, more tired, more irritable, etc) I have told my doc this many many times. I tried the DEPO shot since it is just progesteron and no estrogen. I couldn't handle the side effects of the shot (irritable, cranky, weight gain, made my depression worse, had a worse period in between shots, granted I wasn't on time with my second shot because I was debating on taking it or not.) I only took it for 2 shots (1 shot every 3 months). I going to talk with my OBGYN about possibly trying a low dose BC pill and see what that does. I have also talked about a hysterecomy, obvioulsy not the ideal thing to do but if it would give me more time between exacerbations I would do it. All of it is up in air.

Funny that this topic is here today, I am a part of a group on FB of female CFers and we recently talked about this along with many other things us ladies have to deal with. If you are on FB and would like to join send me a friend request and a message saying that you are from here and I will add you. www.facebook.com/ltlhook

I had many attacks of pancreatitis at or during my menses and when I saw a specialist in Boston, he said his hospital had done studies and there was an increase in symptoms for some women at certain times of the month. He suggested a progesterone only BC pill to cease my menses or at least decrease the symptoms. It did work for a little while, but the pill raised my already high blood pressure, so I had to get off of it. Now my bouts of pancreatits, while not always severe, do coincide with that time of the month. It was nice to hear that I wasn't crazy. This has been studied although not at great length. Patty
