    Diagnosed as an adult

My father has always had a few symptoms (low tolerance to heat/sun exposure suggests high saline sweat, non-proper digestion, mild respiratory issues) but he was tested carrier, "carrier with symptoms" they said in the early 20s. My aunt (father's side) has had a couple respiratory symptoms but...

    post transplant lifestyle

I believed the reason to our high-calory diet was the malabsorption. Then my lung therapist said it was because of the recurrent infections, that we needed so many calories. That might be confirmed by shinkdew's comment about reducing calories. Good to know, when improving in health - we don't...

What are our real PFT numbers

I have seen a big difference in "percentage" from children's clinic to adult's, and also between machines/hospitals/countries (I've moved around quite a bit). The explanation is they might be using different parameters. What is a "holy value" to trust is the actual liters you are blowing. I any...

    IV antibiotics and anxiety...Please respond!!!!

I had never heard of this side effect, one always learns new things! Truth is, I'm on Cypro right now and during the treatment I have been more stressed and anxious about the already existing surrounding circumstances. It's good to know that that anxiety might be gone by Friday when my treatment...

    Risks of unflushed port?

It's so much more comfortable to have IV's on the port than peripheral, that having it, you should really use it! I've had two so far. Yes, it can get clogged. More serious is getting it infected, though - but that happens more usually when accessing it under bad hygiene or using it under bad...

Can somebody give me some answers, please!

Actually, now reading Jacobus's post I remembered something. I was on Colistin for a lot of years (8?) and suddenly started developing a lot of out-of-breathlessness. Due to a flight in which they lost my luggage and left me without nebs for 5 days (!!!) I came to realize that one was the...

Can somebody give me some answers, please!

Dear Keely, First, I'm sorry to hear that your local hospital treats you so badly! Here in Spain I'm quite lucky (Mallorca and La Paz hospital in Madrid are both very good) and in Sweden they've been superb. You could maybe consider a consultation abroad? In Sweden they do speak English...

Some help for new mum of Cf 14 month old boy!

It takes some time to get the hang of CF and learn to live with it and the treatments, but believe me it can be done! And never listen to those who say you can't! All in all, starting today you have very good prospects... <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> Keep it up...

What song do you relate your CF fight to

"Gabriella's song" from a Swedish movie. It starts with "It is now that my life is mine, I have got this time to live fully on earth..." We have to enjoy every single moment! But that's regardless of having a disease or not.

has anyone else gotten mixed up while in the hospital

Jonathan: I've had the very same. Even serious medication problems. And once they also came to draw blood when it was supposed to be from the patient next door. Also, countless times have I had to point out to the nurses that my colistin was to be IV not inhaled. Fortunate that we know about our...

Just for fun but CF related - Real things doctors have said to me in the hospital

You're making me curious, bookworm. Just how old are you? I've also been told I'm so very old (age 31 now). Also had the "fibroquistic" confusion happening... And the "oh yea, I have the same - astma". It felt kind of bad when mom said in church that I was at hospital with a pneumonia due to my...
