Marathon: Is it healthy or not?

I think that if your son is in the kind of shape that he can run a marathon and wants to do it, he should. What did your doctor suggest he do instead?

    Side effects from Cipro

No, no orals work like Cipro. You can try inhaled Cayston and/or Colistin but otherwise it's IVs, and not IV Cipro, other drugs. It's an unfortunate problem to have but seems to be increasingly more common.

    Have you improved your fev1????

Keep up with your treatments, add extra airway clearance any way you can, whether that's an extra vest, acapella, working out - anything extra counts! Your doctor sounds like one I had when I was young that my parents called Eeyore, they would ask if exercise would help and he would tell them...

    Side effects from Cipro

Be careful with Cipro; it caused seizures for means just create a lot of problems! I have lived without it for six years, it's not easy but it is possible. It means doing a lot more IV abx but it is worth it, and going back on Cipro is not an option for me. What does you doc think about going...

Looking at colleges for my CFer

Aboveallislove - thank you again! It's crazy to look back on all the preparation and learning over the last 18 years and know that it paid off and my parents have actually prepared me to go off by myself, but I definitely feel ready! And I may take you up on that - what do you teach? janddburke...

Looking at colleges for my CFer

I am about to start college, so I haven't gotten in to meet professors or anything like that, but I can tell you what we have done thus far! When I was looking, I looked within driving distance of home (meaning about 10 hours for the longest drive, 7 for the next-longest.) I didn't really...

    ENZYMES

Your problem may be your dosing. I'm actually really surprised that nobody counts fat like I do; my gastroenterologist told my parents when I was born that they would have to count fat and dose enzymes accordingly. If you think about it in terms of how diabetics handle insulin - they adjust...

CF clinic recommendations near Auburn, AL

I just want to add that I have been at Emory (Egleston) with Dr. Caplin for 14 years and he has been wonderful. However, I don't know how much longer he will be in practice and I can't say that I would recommend any other pediatric doctor in Atlanta, so it sounds like Birmingham is probably your...

    picc line help

That must be so frustrating Tonya. I knew I was allergic to the catheter because the rash started as a perfect outline of the catheter. Well, actually, it took a chunk of skin through the statlock, but then it made a perfect outline. Also in my experience, IV 3000 isn't good with weepy skin...

    picc line help

So sorry! Definitely puts a damper on summer. First of all, I'm gonna tell you what has finally worked for me (I'm on my first line that hasn't had a reaction after nasty reactions for the last four or five) in case it gives you any ideas. I'm allergic to chloraprep and the catheter of the PICC...

    Advice about Fast Nebulizers

I would HIGHLY recommend the E-flow. I had the Pari brands for years, I think I had 4 ultras and then some that don't exist anymore before that. I wouldn't recommend them simply because we found them unreliable. I had two die without warning within a year. 30 minutes is pretty normal for a Pari...

anyone ever used levofloxacin for a 7 year old?

I have never used levofloxacin, but it is a relative of Cipro (which is why I've never had it; used to use Cipro but developed an allergy, and we don't want its cousin either). If you have used Cipro successfully I think that levo would be alright, but I think just being vigilant is your best...
