    Good FEV 1s and bronchiectasis

Mild bronchiectasis in lower left, lingula (a part of the upper left) and middle right. FEV1 around 100%--was much higher 10 yrs ago. Several cases of pneumonia as a kid, tons in my late twenties and early thirties, but not severe or hospitalized. Non-CF cultures (haemophilus, moraxella and...

The Best Exercise to Raise PFT scores

I'm sorry about your setback first of all. Doing "a bit of everything" is probably good from the injury-prevention standpoint. I am afraid of getting an injury that would wreck my cardio workouts a.k.a. the only reason my left lung does not feel like a bowl of soup. But I hear you on...

    Foods rich in probiotics

I used to drink Kombucha tea (from Whole Foods, though you can buy it elsewhere, I bet). It has tons of probiotics and some odd yeasts too, I think, which did show up in one of my cultures after I drank it for a while. I was never sure if it was making me cough up more mucus or making me make...

    What is your FEV1 Score?

Shane, being shorter allows for your raw scores (in liters) to be lower, but the percent scores are corrected for height/age. If you are saying you are a long-legged guy though, then I see what you're saying. If you can, I would recommend deliberately exercising. I experienced the best two...

    Older child acting out

IMO this is very normal behavior for a child who has had Mom and Dad all to herself up until now. But don't let the guilt over shaking up her world keep you from being firm. I am sure you aren't. Just saying...Right now, she needs lots of attention when she is good, and as little as...

    food that makes you caugh

Ice cream for me too and milk shakes -- though I think in my case it is an asthma/twitchy airway reaction to the cold rather than an issue of more mucus. To the opposite end, I feel like acidic fruits--grapefruits and pineapple in particular--make my mucus come up easier.

    symbicort

Before using symbicort, I used albuterol about 4x daily. I tried Advair and seemed to do worse, also pulmicort. Perhaps it was the dry powdered inhalation business, I don't think it agrees with me. After a few weeks on symbicort, I stopped needing albuterol every day. I use it maybe 2x a day...
