    Port Spewing Blood

<h6 class="uiStreamMessage" data-ft="{"type":1,"tn":"K"}"><span class="messageBody" data-ft="{"type":3}">Port Peoples: I have a port (turning six this month!) and today I accessed it to do my monthly heparin flush. Everything went fine, blood return, pushing. But then, I pulled the needle out...

    port issuses

The first time a nurse accessed my port, she put the needle in, and left. When I went to infuse my meds, I got swelling and burning. Turns out she had missed my port all together, and the needle wasn't in, it was just in my fleshy area. Could this have happened? At the time I had just gotten the...

    Arizona--moving

Sickly - In a totally friendly way I am chuckling to myself. I love Flag, I wish the base was there, we spend every possible weekend there! The air is so nice. I can only hike from Nov-March (the cool months) and I can't go to Mexico (military isn't allowed unless they have a colonel approve it-...

    Arizona--moving

Oh and a side note, for instance there has been an "advisory" since Monday that people with respiratory illness shouldn't go outside because of ozone. I haven't personally been one to listen to these warnings, but like I said, I have a terrible time with asthma here.

    Arizona--moving

I'm in Arizona right now. I've been here for two years, and I can't say great things about it. I have developed asthma, and my allergies have been crazy. I have added singulair (on top of zyrtec) and asmanex to my med list (along with other things for other issues). I do enjoy the care team...

    Moving to a new climate...?

I'm a military wife as well. I am from four climates (Michigan). We moved to Spokane (so the dry part of the state), and that was my favorite in terms of how I felt with breathing. We moved to Florida, and I did alright, but now we are in Arizona. My allergies are terrible, I have developed...

Question for those with ports or considering a port

I would not have a port unless I accessed myself. I absolutely must have the option to access myself. I could give a crap about how it looks.

    Testing beyond OGTT?

Also, just a thought, you might go to walmart and buy a relion meter, and try testing yourself if you feel low, to see if it's a true low, or also, might try testing one or two hours after a carby meal. My endo said if you ever hit 200, you are diabetic, but I've heard other people's doctors...

    Testing beyond OGTT?

I'm one of those who passed all my OGTTs with no abnormalities. I would request an endo, and a week long dexcom trial. That is how I was diagnosed and put on insulin. It's a continuous meter, and while it is not as accurate as finger sticks, it shows you your patterns through the day, and would...

Jasey was in hospital wed thru fri for c-diff colitis

I had C Diff a few years ago when I was on Zosyn. I was told 'most people' have it in small amounts, but it can get out of hand when you kill all the good bacteria in your gut that usually keep the C Diff in line. It was a pretty bad feeling.

    neuropathy?

Well I wrote the thread to get an idea of what possible treatments are, and if anyone has had success with them. My primary care doc diagnosed it, but is referring me to neurology. He didn't want to speculate on treatments, he said to wait to see the neurologist. I called my endo immediately...
