She was a little slow gaining back her birth weight at first but when we saw the CF doctor for the first time she had actually gained almost a pound in less than a week. Her stools were normal to me, however this is my first baby. They look like what I have read normal breast fed stools look like. I don't really understand what the greasy stool would be like? Is is a different color or is it sticky? What exactly greasy means is confusing to me. Some of her stools were stinky, but that could have been from what I ate so I am not really sure about that either. I will be thankful when we get the test results back to know for sure.

My kids are pancreatic sufficient, but from what I've seen others describe on here "greasy" means something like...you've seen on a pepperoni pizza...that orange oily stuff... and "stinky" means ...runs everyone out of the room bad.... not just normal smelly, but really awful most of the time.

It still sounds to me like she is not exhibiting pancreatic insufficient symptoms right now - I'm still leaning towards asking them if she really should be on them, especially if you are seeing an increase in pain -- as others have described feeling when they take too many...this also might indicate that she shouldn't be on them - at least until the test results confirm one way or the other. How is she doing now that it has been a few more days?

When you see a greasy diaper it is almost like the poop and the grease are seperated, like conjealed (sp?). Or it could look shiny, like almost a sheen to it. Hopefully that helps...I am no descriptive writer!

My CFer is 5 months and was super gassy until they put her on prevacid. Then the gas went away. Is your little one exhibiting any symptoms of reflux? Spitting up, vomiting, foul breath, choking, arching back, etc? If so prevacid would help and maybe help the gas. Just my experience...

Also my daughter was started on enzymes before labs came back as well. I don't know if that is standard protocol when there is a positive sweat test or if they just listen to the symptoms and guess.
