1 year old, bad breath, bacteria?

Hi
My 1 year old, well she's had a cough since birth...recently diagnosed with asthma and tracheomalacia...so it's hard to tell what's going on in there.
Anyways, lately I have noticed really bad breath for her. Doesn't seem normal for a babies breath to be smelly?? I got her gum and teeth cleanser for infants but it doesn't help. She has a gray spot in between her two bottom teeth, still haven't figured out what that is from. I tried to floss it today, but no help.
I am just wondering, it seems like I read somewhere that being sick or having a bacterial infection can cause a bad odor. Could she be culturing something?
We go to clinic on Tuesday...I am quite concerned with her cough increase and it sounds worse when she does cough.

I was just curious if anyone else has had issues with the bad breath while culturing something? Thanks for any thoughts or experiences

Anytime I have an infection brewing....my breath becomes uncontrollably bad. No mouthwash, toothpaste or gum helps. Thypically it lasts for me until I have been on ABX for a few days.

**side note** My breath also gets very "hot" when I have an infection as well.

How are her sinuses? Could she have something brewing there. Could she have stuck something up her nose? I've heard THAT can cause an awful smell.

She has a boogery nose...she has for a while now. I know she has something.
I have personally been sick for 3 months, sinus related. I am on my 3rd antibiotic!
Just thought maybe the smell would indicate a definite bacterial infection. Like they say when you have infections on your teeth you have bad breath...

She doesn't have anything up her nose, except boogers.

Thanks for your replies

Oh it could definitely be an infection....my breath smells bad as well, I can actually tell what is growing out by the smell and taste inside my mouth....gross, yes but true. I will even tell the doc what I suspect is the bacteria acting up based on taste/smell and most of the time, I have been right. I hope you get answers soon...

My cousin had stuffed bits of his foam madras up his nose and that was detected months later when he started to smell like a dead man. The smell was rotten from his mouth and nose.

My son's bad breath turned out to be from esophogeal (sp?) thrush which is fairly common with inhaled steroids. He had been on Flovent for 2 years before we had any issues. It was treated with an oral solution that was pretty high maintenance, if I remember right he had to take it 4 times per day. We chose to discontinue/switch meds as well as treat the thrush and noticed dramatic results after only a few days. He had also been doing this throat clearing and shoulder shrugging motion basically because his throat was itching which also went away soon after treatment. Really, I think that thrush was a guess and there aren't any definitive diagnostic tools, not that that helps you but it's something to think about! Good luck!
