12month check up!

A while back I mentioned that I was not looking forward to Emily's 12 month clinic visit because of her infant PFT. I know not every clinic does pft's for babies, so Bre might not have this to look forward to. Even if she does, I will echo what everyone told me then - it's nothing to fear. She fell asleep peacefully before it and slept most of the way through. I had stepped out when she decided the sedation wasn't enough anymore, so I didn't have to deal with getting her "under" again LOL!

The other parts of the 12 month visit that weren't exactly fun but are oh so necessary were the chest x-ray and the blood work.

HEre are some excerpts from my notebook at the 12 month visit.

1. What are the clinic's reccomendations/requirements about the vest? How soon can we get it?
2. Is there anything I need to be aware of (enzyme-wise) as we move completely into table food?
3. What is our visit schedule fro here on in? How often?
4. At what point do regular "tune ups" start?
5. Specific med. questions. (In our case it was, "should be nebulize the abuterol rather than mdi when she has a harsher cough?"
6. What are our "realistic" short-term weight gain goals?

I have learned to keep a notebook handy to write down my questions as they occur to me through out the month. Then, I have all my thoughts in one place when we go to clinic. I tuck the pediatricians reprots from the weekly weight checks in so I always have an accurate flowchart of her gains and losses, too. Also, we have just started to write on a calendar what meds she started and stopped (non cf/ear infection and sinus infection related stuff). Knowing when she had an infection and how it was treated is helpful. I always call the clinic anyway when the ped. prescribes something, but I like having it all in one place.

At our one year appt. we also met with the clinic social worker, the geneticist, and an RT. The RT was the most helpful. SHe "checked" our pt technique and gave us some pointers for doing pt on our ever more mobile little girl. If this isn't scheduled already for you, I'd reccommend requesting it!

Sorry this was so long!

This has been so helpfull Thank you so much, I started makeing my list of QA's right after I read this! There are always so menys QA's and I forget half of them before I even get to the clinic! So this was very helpfull and I am going to call the so. worker and talk to her about a few things, to see if I need an extera app. for somethings.

God bless you!

I keep a list of DS's drugs on my computer --- dosages, times per day... Under that I have a list of comments, questions...

Previously it was the vest, hypertonic saline vs. pulmyzyme, increasing vitamins with increase in age -- tablets?, factor 2 test (liver function) and trip to Mexico any vaccinations, etc....

Currently it's concerns with going to local clinic, vitamins when he turns 4, throat culture -- hasn't had one recently...
