Hi guys,

Just wanted to give you exciting news about finally (after nearly 2 years) getting to try Denufosol (I'm about 95% sure I have the actual med, not the placebo).

You can follow more on my blog if you want, but I thought some might be interested to hear what's up so far.

From yesterday:

Well today was an exciting day - the day I get the study medication (or placebo).

I woke up this morning coughing up a bit of blood, which bummed me out for 2 reasons: #1 it's always horrifying to cough up blood... I never get used to it and #2 there is a possibility that could have delayed my study appointment.

Luckily it wasn't a whole lot of blood, so I got the go ahead to come into clinic to begin Study Day 2.

They had me do pulmonary function tests again today,
I filled out a huge Quality of Life Questionaire where they asked me how I felt on a daily basis about my ability to keep up with my peers, work, go out with friends, plan for the future, etc. I guess they figure aside from purely measuring how a medicine can improve lung function, they feel this change can also lead to improved quality of life!

So anyway.... here's the big part you've been waiting for..... whether I got the placebo or real drug, right?

Weeeelllllllllllll.... I'm about 95% sure I got the real medicine.

So exciting stuff. I'll keep you posted on how I feel over the next few days, but so far I'm excited about the fact that I may in fact have the drug! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

From this morning:

I feel less tight and less mucus-y than I did the past 2 days. This time of year is usually my WORST for allergies which makes my lungs feel very tight and inflammed. But today I feel a bit better.

Placebo effect? Could be. But I'm pretty sure it's the actual drug. I've taken 0.9% saline before, and this isn't what the experience was like.

FIGHT ON

Congrats! Are you still feeling a big difference?

I'll be doing the bronchitol clinical trial in five weeks when my allergy shots move into the maintenance phase--a rule I learned about last week.

When the trial is done, do they tell you which you got, placebo or drug?
