So this year I am trying to better my health, and bring my lung function up to 2.0 (fev1). On NOV30 it was 1.92 (62%). Aroun dec 15th I caught an unknown virus that dropped me down to 23% and ended me in the ICU on bi-pap. Upon discharge it was 40% (1.40).

I am currently in the hospital for a "tune up". I wasn't feeling BAD but my allergies had led to a bad sinus infection and a nasty, sticky, increased cough. I am 5 days in and my cough is better ad my sinuses are better. I have almost 100% blockage on the right side, left, and frontal sinuses. SOO I am having sinus surgery on friday. This always does alot for my lung function.

Ok so currently these are the meds and supplements I am on, am I missing something that would do me great good???

Albuteral Neb -2x's a day
Hypertonic - 2x's a day
Pulmozyme -2x's a day
Cromolyn Sodium -3x's a day
Cayston (starting May 1st)
Symbicort 2x's a day

Singular
Allegra (180mg)
Nexium
Source CF vit
Creon 20 (likely changing to zenpep)

Fish Oil -2000mg a day
Garlic 4000mg a day
Vit D3 - 2000ius a day
Vit C 1000 a day
Accuflora -4 pills a day

Saline spray -2-4 times a day
Saline Rinses 2-4 times a week

And I am likely starting Astilin and Nasaquort AQ after my surgery, but not sure yet. I was doing rhinocort but the ENT dr thinks its not working (obviously lol).

I also exercise and do my vest 2-3 times a day.

And yes I am 100% complaint.

Good for you, that's quite the routine. One thing you could add, if you and yoru doc feel it could help, is an extra HTS neb. I find it works so well with me for making me cough and hydrating the airways that I spoke with my doc about 3x a day. I really think this has helped me, and since you're already doing nebs/vest 3x a day it probably wouldn't be too taxing to add to your routine. But again, sounds like you have a very proactive and aggressive healthcare schedule. I'm impressed.

This is probably silly, but don't forget about water. 8 glasses a day (or I find I can sub in green or chamomile tea for a couple of glasses if I'm truly bored with water) makes a huge difference in allergies and just keeping the body healthy. CF docs often fail to mention simple, common sense healthcare stuff to their patients. Also, I drink gatorade during exercise to replenish salt. They have a low sugar version for diabetics or people who simply prefer a low sugar diet.

You could also look into some form of NAC -- the fizzy NAC tabs are popular and research/info on this can be found at noexcuses' (saveferris) blog. Mucomyst is also a form of NAC and can apparently be nebbed or drunk orally.

Just again, good for you. I think you deserve to hear it more than once <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0"> Your daughter will totally thank you for being so good to yourself and your lungs down the line!

Not sure whether you do your hypertonic through a mask or mouthpiece, but we've switched to a mask for both that and her inhaled antibiotics, figuring it can't hurt. It has seemed to help with her sinus issues. Not sure about Cayston though, I would think a mask would work if you're not using one already, but you may want to check with your Dr. Being an adult (unlike my 8 yo) you would probably be able to tell if it made a difference within a week or so. I hope Piper will be as compliant as you are!

Thanks Piper!

I'll try to 3 a day hypertonic. I have just now been able to work up to 2 times a day. It causes me to lose my voice and have bleeds, but since I've been healthier its not AS bad.

Water is a great reminder. I am BAD about it. In fact the most plain water I get in a day is the 2 syringe fulls I flush my g-tube with.

I am dying to try the fizzy NAC...I just don't have the $50 a month right now.HOPEFULLY when hubby gets his promotion we will have the extra!

Thanks again girl. I was bad about my health before but now I am very dedicated!
