hello all. i have never heard of cf before only when i statred reading up on it a few weeks ago. so im here for a litle help with ppl who know the condtion the best i cant trust what i read on the internet.
my boy was very poorly in hospital for 10 days with bronclitis at 5 months old.on the chet xray it showed up he also had a secondray infection.it waa awful we couldnt even hold him he was that poorly. anyway after that he was always ill constant cough cold weeze etc. til he ended bk in hopsital again with rsv he was in for 2 days that time.
he has been admitted a further 4 times now. so a year ago he got diagnosed with infant asthma (no testin) just from his symtoms and breathing difficutlys.
he has about 9 infections to date and 3 ear infections.
he also suffers with hayfever.
recently he got croup which left him poorly for 2 weeks.
now every time he falls ill he gets this awful barking cough and smeely breath he had a attack and then left weezing for 2 weeks. he gets put on anti biotics every time. he is also always tired .
he has runny smeely poop every napy but nothing i think out of ordinary?
and his weight is fine infact he hs always been a big lad relli apart from his birth weight.he currently weighs 28lbs. but they did say his height didnt match his weight.
anyway the test is orederd for next thurs he also had a chest xray and thankfully that is fine.
can he have cf even though he is thriving (as they say)
any help info appreciated thankyou xx

Some of the symptoms do sound similar. Especially the messy diapers. When he's gotten sick, have they run a culture on the sputum (mucus) or done a throat culture to see if he could be growing cf "bugs" such as Pseudomonas, Steno. Maltophilia, Staph, H. Flu., MRSA...?

DS was diagnosed at birth and while he was on enzymes we still had issues with loose, frequent stools; however, his doctor wasn't concerned because he was still within the 50th percentile. Looking back, we know now that we probably should've pushed for more answers -- more enzymes.. IMO, you should ask them to do a fecal fat test to see if he's pancreatic sufficient or insufficient despite his being okay weight-wise.
