3 week old and enzymes

Maggie started on enzymes yesterday and has been extremely fussy ever since. She screamed for over an hour last night before finally falling asleep and is screaming now although she's fed, changed and has slept. Could it be the enzymes upsetting her stomach, or the applesauce maybe? She's only 3 weeks old.

Hi Nancy,

What is Maggie taking for nourishment? Formula or breastmilk? Not sure about the applesauce; I didn't use it to give my Maggie enzymes. What I did was open a Creon 5 into a small plastice medicine cup; then I took my clean pinkie finger and wet it with the inside of Maggie's mouth; then dipped my pinkie in the medicine cup to get a dose of enzymes on my finger. I stuck it back in Maggie's mouth; close to the very back inside next to her tongue. I breastfed; so I immediately put her to the breast and the enzymes and breastmilk went down together. That's what a pharmacist told me to do when Maggie was born cause I really didn't want to do the applesauce til she got older. Though other's have used applesauce as babies with no issue. Is she pooping ok? Gassy? Are you burping her? Could it just be regular baby stuff?

Hi. She is breastfeedng. She's burping fine. She seems less gassy overall. And she's pooping more. I figured it was regular baby stuff but she was never this fussy until last night when we started with the enzymes. I will try doing them without applesauce. Maybe she's just too little and it's upsetting her stomach. Thanks.

She may be experiencing some discomfort with the transition to enzymes. It could be the applesauce, something new in her little tummy she isn't used to. My mom used to dip the nipples of our baby bottles in corn syrup then in the beads of the enzymes. She says they went down no problem with that meathod.
