So here is my list of problems
1. MRSA and Staph curently on bactrim until 34 weeks when doc is taking me off incase of delivering baby boy early
2. Aspergillus- the devil! currently taking over my lungs causing a dry hacking cough that throws me into puking almost every time! If I have nothing to throw up its dry heaving :(
3. Weight gain- I have only gained 5 lbs with this pregnancy:( It has been so hard! The baby is doing great measuring and growing perfect but I am NOT! I am so skinny right now it is sick!
So my questions are: Has anyone been on Itraconozole late in pregnancy or Amp B which is IV med to kill aspergillus? If so anything bad happen or any problems with baby?
The other thing is how did you put weight on? Im taking Pancreaze everytime i eat, but with throwing up im losing everything. Boost and Ensure is a given i puke after drinking them. Ugh I fighting a losing battle and am worried.
My OB and CF talked today and are going to start IV lipids come Monday which hopefully will put some weight on. Im still freaking out! I was able to make it to 39 weeks with my daughter but this is such a different pregnancy. Did any of your babies need to be taken early like 36/37 weeks? did they get to go home with you? or stay in the hospital.
On the plus side like i said baby is doing GREAT, and i do have helped 3 days a week lined up for when he arrives. LORD HELP ME!

While there are no guarantees, Amp B has been shown safe in pregnant animal studies (not human) and the FDA says it can be safety given to pregnant women.

Itranonazole, however, should only be used it absolutely necessary. In animal studies it DID cause complications so I would avoid it.

Beyond that, I wish you the best and good luck.

Teri, from the very beginning of my pregnancy I was with nauseas, I was so dizzie that I could not even walk. My Doc gave me reglan but didn't work for me and started vomiting so they switched to zofran 3 times during the day and phenegan at night until I reached 20 weeks. From beginning to the end I took lanzoprazole twice a day for heartburn and also creon 20
I had to eat small amount of food every 2 hours, everything had to be blended or cut very small otherwise I would puke . I ate mainly vegetables, fruits, pasta, chicken, red meat, yogurt (sometime it would give me heartburn), lot of milk. I could only tolerate 1 boost a day..1/2 in the morning and 1/2 at night it would make my stomach upset right away! I could not even take vitamins i puked after. I took folic acid only for 3 months and stopped due to extreme constipation.
I suggest you to eat very small meals as often as you can and drink a lot of water. I had to drink 5 liters a day, I used to put numbers on each plastic bottle of 16oz and drink 10 of them a day :(
I had triplets born at 31 weeks, they weight 3 pounds each and they are all healthy ! The 2 girls spent 38 days and the boy 69 ( he cought IRSV virus) at the Nicu.
The Lord is with you Teri , everything will be fine!

My first pregnancy was also totally different from my 2nd. The first was a peachy breeze all the way...the 2nd was a pain in the butt from day 1!!!!
I worked with a doula for both pregnancies. In Cf we always focus on calories, but the building blocks of a baby (and your tissues and muscles too) are protein. Your goal should be to get in 100 grams of protein every day. Lots of things have protein besides chicken and eggs. Whole grain breads, milk, cheese, rice, etc...Once you start looking at the labels you'll see that there are easy ways to get your protein in. Its proven that women who follow a diet of 100 grams per day during pregnancy reduce their chances of preterm delivery significantly. I went full term with both pregnancies, but only gained 17 lbs with the first, the 2nd I gained 25.
I followed a food diary each day. Food may make you gag, but you MUST eat. Do chest pt first thing in the am, then eat after. Then do a small but high protein snack mid morning. Lunch, then another small but high protein snack mid afternoon, then dinner then another snack before bed. Bedtime is time to eat whatever you want, so if thats ice cream or cheese doodles...just eat them. Drinking millk is great...I'd drink a 1/4 cup constantly...which is nothing, but if you do it 5-6 times a day, thats alot of protein.
Bottom line, you aren't eating for enjoyment, you're eating for nutrition. The baby wont suffer, he/she will take from your body. But your body is suffering, you need to eat. Believe me, I remember how hard it is, I really do. Ughghgh..
Next is really try to chill...take steamy showers, relax your body, get massages...I believe there is a strong mind/body connection with pregnancy and labor after having been through it twice and seeing many women through labor.

I'm so sorry about you having such a rough time! I completely understand as my pregnancy was really hard on me. I ended up on IVs twice- once around 18 weeks for 2 weeks and once around 34 weeks. When I went in the second time there was talk of delivering Sam at 35 weeks.

Just take a deep breath and take it one day at a time. Hopefully once you start getting some meds going you will start to feel better. I ended up doing better with the 2nd round of IVs and didn't get induced until 38 weeks.

I have never had weight problems until getting pregnant. I actually lost 20 lbs in the beginning and only gained back about 15 lbs. Sam was 6 lbs and 9 ounces when he was born. I agree to try and eat LOTS of protein. I had gestational diabetes and was on insulin throughout my pregnancy. I was told to eat 100 grams of protein a day too. You might try drinking some protein shakes. I managed to do ok with those.

I hope you start to feel better soon! Just try not to stress out about needing to go on meds. Sometimes its just unavoidable. With you breathing better the baby will do better too! And with the weight part, just know that after the baby is born, you are really going to need to work on getting your weight back up. I wouldn't stress to much about how little weight you've gained because the baby is growing just fine. You're just going to be that much smaller when he/she is born.

I'll keep you in my prayers and hope that things get better!

Thanks everyone for your suggestions and kind words! Monday i find out what the plan is with the lipids and Amp B which is a category B so im not too worried about that. I have been trying to do more protein and not worry as much about the calories. The one problem is milk makes me cough alot more so i have switched to coconut milk and up'd my protein and also found so Protein powder that doesnt contain milk to mix in smoothies.

mamascarlett i def. need to look into a massage i had one earlier in pregnancy but they had to do it on my side and then my rib popped out. that was painful. I will call around a see if anyone has the beds that open up in the middle so your belly fits in it. I hope to gain some serious weight in these next few weeks!

I delivered my daughter at 37 &1/2 weeks when I went into labor spontaneously. I had very few problems with the pregnancy except an exacerbation that I did have to go on IV antibiotics for at about 19 weeks. Thankfully, my daughter was perfectly healthy, didn't need any oxygen. She was a little jaudiced, but it resolved on its own. I hope everything is going alright for you and your baby.

Lauren- Im doing ok. I was on IV lipids and vanco for 3 weeks. I felt good on them but was very tired from getting up so much to switch out the meds. oh well! Now a few days after being off i started getting Flu like symptoms which SUCK and happen to me every time. I am super tired and run down, but at 35 weeks my docs cant do anything for me :( Since being off the lipids i have also lost 2 lbs. :( Things are not looking so HOT right now! They want me to get to 38 weeks but i really dont think that is realistic at this time. I have my next OB Thurs, I hope they have a better plan then waiting.

I'm sorry you are having a tough time mama!<img title="Cry" src="include/wysiwyg/tinymce/jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/img/smiley-cry.gif" alt="Cry" border="0" />
I KNOW how you feel! This was my last pregnancy with my son. It was really difficult too, towards those last few weeks
The best advice I can offer is please try to stay in bed as much as possible. Take long steamy showers, warm baths, have someone come over to the house and massage you...in other words RELAX! Please! In my experience, this does just as much as any strong IV med can do, for REAL.
My docs suggested at that time, that I do partial bed rest. About 6 hrs a day. I had a 4 yo at the time, so that wasn't possible. So I sent my daughter to grandma's for 3 days at a clip, with 1 day in between with us. We did this on and off for 2 weeks. It was the only way I could hold on.
Personally I feel when you are this pregnant, you aren't going to get better per se. All you can do is hold your ground. Do whatever you can to keep that baby in you as long as possible. Even a few extra days is best for baby, if you can. Of course you don't want pre term delivery, but if you have to, you have to and all will be fine. But if you can avoid a pre term delivery, its really best for you and LO. (NICU and preterm issues would also be a strain on you)
Thankfully we live in a time where babies delivered a few weeks early do just fine!!! So whatever happens, just hold onto a positive outlook. I know how hard it is when you are this pregnant though. Its just miserable.
