I have to admit that this is quite early. The good news probably is that chances of it being colonized yet is unlikely which makes it easier to eradicate.

Please be sure the treatment is aggressive. Although chances are good your little one will culture pseudomonas again later in life, the longer you can keep it away the better.

If keeping it away isnt possible that at bay is important.

I do ?? since I was dx when I was 7 how they get a culture from a 5 week old......

Maybe the method isnt the most accurate also.

Hope others with little ones chime in.

HUGS & Welcome

I am reading your response correctly that you were diagnosed with pseudomonas at age 7 and still have it? Do you know how to prevent them from catching it? Thanks for you response.

DS cultured it when he was 3 months old and was started on Tobi. He's 4 now and has cultured it off and on since then -- hasn't lately... He spent the first 6 weeks of life in the NICU recovering from bowel obstruction surgery and he also picked up a few other bugs there. Not surprising when I think of how the respiratory therapists went from isolette to isolette in the nicu to do nebs and CPT -- they'd wash their hands but would cradle the babies up against their bodies, would keep saline in their pockets as well as the albuterol....

They always did throat cultures on DS. More recently they've worked on trying to get a sputum culture from him.
