well the good thing with a 504 plan is that she doesn't need to be behind academically. there doesn't need to be a discrepancy between performance and ability (at there does for an IEP). I would ask for a 504 plan mtg in writing to the school now. If they question anything say "this is a legal document that follows her from year to year. these accommodations need to be formally written in the vent she gets very ill and has to go to school elsewhere. this legal document - the 504 plan- would follow her."

One different thing I can add is that in our school district a student who misses a certain number of days is automatically unenrolled from school and my son w/CF is exempt from that policy (written in his 504), so he will never be unenrolled for attendance issues.

My son's school was working with us before the 504 so we didn't initiate the proceedings, the school nurse did. She stated that it is much easier to get one in place at the elementary level than wait until middle school. Now all we have to do is update it every year, which was a very simple process this year.
