Hi All,

I am writing a blog series about "Back to School Daze with Special Medical Needs" and have written one on 504s and IEPs- a subject that is very important and very confusing!!

The blog is done but I need a couple of you here to review it for me before I post it (including here) because I need to make sure it's right. :)

There are so many knowlegable parents here who have lived through this and know as much as a lawyer (because you've sort of been one!). Would you be willing to give it a quick proof read? It's only about a page and a half and is really just a summary of the two plans.

You can private message me (or post is fine, too) and I'll email it to you.

Thanks for your help! I think it will help clear up some of the confusion about the two. In my research, I learned things I didn't know.

Hugs,

I'll take a look. Emily's had an IEP w/attached health plan for 7 years, Shawn has had 504 plan for a couple different issues for many years and I am very familiar with how both work and the back and forth process with the schools in getting things done. :)

Thanks Harriett! I'll PM you. Thx for being my "fact checker." :) This is pretty complicated stuff!

I've been lucky over the years because a health plan worked well for us (the teacher letter that I use- on my site at www.TipsForCFParents.com). We've had all of our needs met.

But as my son starts jr hi now and it's a different school with different staff, I need to do a 504 plan especially to protect him from falling behind due to long hospital stays. Our school is wonderfully cooperative and compassionate but it's a good idea to have everything in writing.
