A little pale?

Hi,

My son Logan has a very fair complexion... Now, some of this could be due to his irish heritage, but I am wondering if children with CF are a little paler than the "norm?" Is it because of a vitamin deficiency? He takes his ABDEKS and vitamin D regularly, but he still seems very pale to me. Should I be concerned? Any input is appreciated! Thanks!!

A good % of CFers are very very fair complexion. Many of us who are very fair almost seem to have translucent skin in a way....

Granted we have CFers who are African American, Hispanic and of Mid Eastern Descent etc, but those with a European heritage usually have that fairer then usual complexion that makes us look pale.

On top of that is the different issues from CF which can present & contribute such as low 02 to lack of sun etc.

CFTR doesn't impact the gene in our DNA that impacts melanin production.

cystic fibrosis simply is most common in those of northern european dissent where there isn't much sun. therefore the skin needs to be lighter to absorb vitamin D more effectively from the sun.

I went to my pcp this week and he said that people with lighter skin especially women tend to get more urinary tract infections ,vaginal and yeast, because they have no melanin in their skin and i have always had all of the above since i was a little girl.
