The press release for this just came accross my desk. I think it might be a good thing to have in our bedtime story routine, my kindergartener and preschooler don't really understand much about their Cf sister, so maybe this will be good.

<b>'Kyle's First Crush': New Children's Book Addresses Cystic Fibrosis with Endearing Preschool Love Story </b>

WESTON, Fla., Nov. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Author Leah Orr tells the heartwarming story of a little boy's crush on a beautiful girl who is afflicted with cystic fibrosis in her new book, "Kyle's First Crush" (now available through AuthorHouse).

Kyle falls in love for the first time in Miss Irene's pre-kindergarten class. The girl he loves, Ashley Elizabeth, is a very special girl who melts his heart. Ashley has cystic fibrosis, and Kyle learns from his teacher how this illness affects her. With the help of his mom, Kyle finally summons the courage to tell Ashley how he feels about her.

Orr's book is beautifully illustrated in full color by Josephine Lepore. Both the story and the artwork bring smiles to faces young and old.

The author plans to donate all the profits from this book to the CF Foundation.

Orr is the mother of Ashley Elizabeth, and Lepore is Ashley's grandmother. "Kyle's First Crush" is the first in a series of seven books that the author plans to write about Ashley Elizabeth and cystic fibrosis.

"Children born today [with cystic fibrosis] are expected to live much longer [than in the past], but scientists, researchers and the CF Foundation are looking toward a cure by 2012," says Orr. "So, I will write a book every year until a cure is found."

Heather, thanks for posting this. Looks cute! I will be ordering it and probably the next six, too! I'm a sucker for things like this. I have been reading <u>Mallory's 65 Roses</u> to our 4 year old. She loves it and talks about it all the time. The words "Cystic fiorsis" (she can't quite say it) and "sticky mucus" have become a regular part of her vocabulary! As in, "Mooo- ooom, Emily coughed up some sticky mucus on the carrrrrr- pet!!!!" We had a get together at our house on Sunday and Isabelle proudly announced to our guests "Guess what everybody, Emily is a CF kid!" Like she was celebrity or something because she's like Mallory in the book. So, I guess reading the books has the desired effect. It makes CF somewhat understandable to her. Thanks again for sharing the info!

I am going to purchase this as well. My two year old loves the book Little Brave Ones and an outdated book on CF called Big Pats, Little Pats. Right now he thinks just about everyone gets Creon and the VEST. I hate to think about it when he realizes that they don't.

I have been looking for a way to explain my sons disease to him but i just cry everytime i try too , he asks me why i have to do the treatments and i can muster up to say is to stay healthy sweetie. I know it is hard for me to except his disease for god knows i have already buried a child already ,it devastated me in 95. So i think i will purchase one of these books mentioned by you guys and see if this might help me help him understand a little of whats wrong with him......

Thanks for posting about the new book. I didn't know of any other kids books (young kids).

My kids LOVE <u>Mallory's 65 Roses</u>, especially my 6 year old. I can barely get through reading it to them without crying, but I'm getting better!

Wow Heather, that is so cool. I think that a kid's book on CF is a great idea. I wonder how our kids would like to read about all the stuff that they do daily. I will have to google that new publication.

Thanks for the info!
