Tom, I know you've mentioned the importance of taking Magnesium preferably Solgar Magnesium Glycinate I think you said. If I took Sean's probiotic suggestion which contains magnesium should I not take the Solgar version as well - too much? Also, when you make suggestions of amounts to take such as with Mg you said to take 100mg divided into 2 doses is this based on a certain size person. I realize you have a young child with CF and thought I better ask.

Lauren,

The current advice is to take 5 to 10 mg/per kilo/per day.

For additional information you can look at www.sharktank.org in the supplements section.

When I said in a previous post about the 100mg, that was based on my son and his current weight.

The solgar Mag Glycinate is 100mg per tablet. I think most adults take between 400 and 800mg/day in divided doses.

If you take the probiotic with the magnesium, you can drop the mag glycinate by the amount in the probiotic.

Thank's Sean for your reply, the helpfull information and the link you posted. I will try and look it up as soon as i have time on my hands, as my daughter has been a bit of a handful the past few weeks.

Also, thankyou to everyone else for your responces and to Tom with that helpful link.

At the moment, she is on a probiotic called (Cyto Bifidus) which contains 10billion live bactera. It is one that a Peadiatricain recommended.

OOPPS, that was me i forgot to log in.

Sean, i forgot to mention.
Thankyou also for the helpful info, on the fruit and veg. I wasn't aware of that and i'm so glad that you mentioned it.

I have a question regarding the veg. Although i steam/boil/bake our vegies i assume they don't contain any bacteria that might be present when they are raw. Is that right?

Thanks
Eli

I too have been doing a ton of research on probiotics. Specifically allicilin. There have been several studies which state it is very effective in controlling/curing MRSA. Most of them are based on a topical application on wounds infected with MRSA...My brother cultures for MRSA and psuedo..
I have checked into the "total immune booster". Here is my questions;

1)It is my understanding CF patients do not absorb nor benefit as much from the normal person by orally taking vitamins and suppliments in a pill form. AND if the normal person only absorbs about 10 to 20 percent of any suppliments taken in a pill form, will a CF patient get any sort of benefit from oral suppliments??? AND when taking allicilin (sp), would it be better to break the capsule and dissolve in water? (another company also makes it in a powder form for sublingual use)

2)I have recently ordered an amino acid complex in a liquid form, hoping for a better absorbtion rate. Has anyone found this in sublingual??

Sean, or anyone else. Are my theories correct about the absorbtion and CF?? I have just starting learning all of this stuff recently.

Oh and the H2 orega nebbing is going well...He likes it, we shall see at his dr. appointment in 2 weeks if it helps his PFTs..
