A question for the ladies with CF

Hello....

While reading the thread on blood in sputum during one's cycle, I got to thinking... though I've never had this happen during my cycle, I have noticed I've been more short of breath lately when I am menstruating. I also seem to cough more. Does this happen to anyone else? I mean, I know in general, we feel a bit more crummy and run-down at that time of the month, but I just mean does your CF feel worse? I actually seem to think "its clean-out time" everytime this happens, but then I realize, its just that time of the month. Weird. Why would this happen? Has anyone asked the doc?

it takes alot of energy to have a period so maybe you should eat more to keep your energy going throughout the day and therefore not be out of breath
remember everything you do including breathing takes energy (or calories)

I up my protein intake during my period. I do a protein/cal shake in the morning. And even another if I need it.
I always feel lousy during it. VEry tired, wheezy, fever-y. Sucks!

A few years back I asked my doctor about this & he (didnt have the same doctor as now) said that many of his female CFers have problems when it comes to menstrual times. AT that point it was all connected to hormonal levels, but I dont know if anything knew has been discusses. I just know to take extra care & not overdo around my period. I get all messed up!

So funny you guys should mention this today! HAHA! I always have that problem and my dr.s have given me antibiotics to start a few days before my period because it always seems my PFT's and stuff will go down. I have to take it easy as much as possible and double up on all my treatments. Dr's said that they have a lot of female patients that have this problem. My chest tightens up and I sometimes run a low grade fever.

Hmm...I've never really noticed a change in my health during my period. That's not to say that there isn't a change, but just not a noticeable one.
