A very high calorie shake

Hi, I thought I'd post my recipe for a very high calorie shake that has helped me gain weight in the past month. At the hospital they give you all these "scandishakes" or whatever, or recipes for shakes that just DONT have enough calories in them. I mean if you are going to gulp down a whole shake it might as well be worth it. Anyway, I drink two of these a day. At first it was really tough, my stomach had shrunk and I felt SO sick gulping these things down, but gradually it got better. Each shake has between 800-1000 calories in it, depending on how much icecream you use, so two a day can be almost 2000 calories! I gained 10 pounds in 28 days.

1/2 Cup - 1 Cup Haagan Dasz Ice cream (vanilla or chocolate or whatever)- 270-540 cal.
2/3 cup mlk ( i use soymilk to so it is about 50 calories)
2 Tbsp Chocolate syrup = 100 calories
1 Carnation instant breakfast = 130 calories
2 scoops of protein powder (i use egg white powder b/c it has 24 g of protien in each scoop)= 200 calories

So if you use 1 cup of icecream that is 540+50+100+130+200= 1,020 calories! If you use half a cup the shake is not as overwhelming and still has about 800 calories. Plus tons of protien. It is said by bodybuilders that you need twice the amount of protien needed for "health" to gain weight. So I figure my nutritionist at the hospital (what a genius, yah right) told me I need 50 grams so I try to shoot for way over that.

Anyway, hope this helps. Doing this helped so much! Just COUNTING THE CALORIES, every day, and making sure you get them in, every day. There is no way you can EAT 3000 calories a day (well maybe someone could), so the shakes help, to just suck them down. I went from 94 pounds on September 24th to 104.5 pounds today at my dr.'s appt. This is the first time I have ever been so successful. I know some of you might have problems with dairy so you can use soy chocolate icecream or soy chocolate milk both of which taste pretty good.

Does it taste really sweet? I cant/dont/wont do sweet. I can deal with the "formula" type aftertaste, but not sweet. Just curious before trying it!!!!!!

i find that it tastes sweet in the way that a regular shake tastes sweet, but not in that sick way that powdered things tastes. i found that using chocolate carnation instant breakfast and chocolate flavoured protein powder is better, because whatever they use to make the vanilla makes it taste sweeter.

i am totally with you, i hate that fake sweet taste so much

Well yah it is sugar, dairy, and fat. I dont have Diabetes, and if I didnt have to gain weight I would be the healthiest eater around. Unfortunately all the "healthy fats" in the world dont make you gain weight when its crucial.

Also, genius, you never thought about what I EAT in addition to those shakes, and servings of butter and dairy and sugar are fine in combination with other healthy foods.

Don't even think about insulting me like every other anonymous person on this board when I was only trying to help someone...I guess you must be a "borderline sadist," so clever.

Caitlin

p.s. if you read my post you would say i suggest using SOY MILK and SOY ICECREAM if people notice problems with all the dairy.

Just for the record.....for me I think not drinking/eating all of the ingredients to put on my weight is just as bad. If I dont have my weight then I dont have anything because it just snowballs.

I want to thank the person who posted this recipe, I've gained 25 pounds in the last 8 weeks drinking two of these per day. I thought by now I'd be sick of them, but they taste really good!

Do you have to make these fresh? or can you put a big mix into a blender and just refrigerate it?

Just wondering, I plan to make these but I am always short on time (aren't we all!?)

THis one is really good too, and no powdered stuff because my husband was a pretty big sissy whiner about it. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif" border="0">

Chocolate peanut butter shake

1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
3 tbsp creamy peanut butter
3 tbsp chocolate syrup
1 1/2 cups chocolate ice cream

Blend it all in a blender, and you get about 1070 calories

Good idea Caitlin!

I put on weight way too easy, especially if I chill on the gym some and just sit around. Beer and soda are great ways to get fat for me.
