I do have APBA also. I just got out of the hospital yesterday. They put me on 200mg of VFEND twice a day. And I was on 40mg of steroids a day at the hospital. The steroids will be tapered down to 10mg a day. I hope the VFEND works. The dr. told me I will be on 10mg of steroids indefinately. And of course home iv's for at least 10 days.

I have been on Vfend since May at 200 mg 2xs per day. Started prednisone at the same time at 40 per day and now I'm down to 5mg every other day. They only started the vfend b/c i was on a course of IV antbx and there was absolutely no change in pfts or cough. Since I have been on the Vfend/prednisone I felt significantly better.
That's my experience.

I wonder why the Vfend dosage is so low for her? It must because of weight....?

I have heard that oral antifungals aren't effective in treating ABPA. The only reason they use them is to avoid fungal colonization elsewhere. I'll have to confirm this, though.

I mis-stated how much VFend she is on. She takes 80mg/ two times a day. (I think they are 40 mg/tablets and she take two twice a day). She is doing ok right now, but since she went off the Prednisone, her FEV1 has dropped from 100% to 94% in 6 weeks. We are just keeping an eye on her. She has had an increase in cough, and last Friday had blood in her sputum. That is not normal for her.

This ABPA really has made her CF very challenging
