Acapella vs. Vest

I feel like manual CPT and the vest is more of a passive method, whereas the Acapella, PEP, Flutter are more active. I feel like the Flutter really gives my lungs a workout and it makes me take deep breaths, use controlled coughing, etc. It's always interesting to see how different people prefer different methods of CPT for various reasons. Like how the vest works effectively for one person and not another.

Danyell - that's very interesting what your doctor said about the Acapella. Maybe in your particular case they think it wouldn't be beneficial for you to do the Acapella on a regular basis.

Rubyrose, After seeing everyone's answers, I was thinking that too since my FEV1 isnt very high. However when I was in my Ped clinic at Duke, they told me I couldn't substitute with the Flutter either. Maybe it's a Duke Hospital thing. I don't know. Personally, I seem to get tired more quickly with the Acapella with all the inhale/exhale to make it work. I have a hard time doing it for 10mins, even with resting between breaths. I do have the Acapella Choice, so I can chose the settings but I still get tired. I can use the Acapella in addition to my Vest if I feel that I need a little extra help.

Skye, my reason for not liking the Vest has to do with my fibromyalgia more than my CF. Fibromyalgia causes my back to hurt more often than not, and the Vest makes it worse sometimes.
